Oh my god! you've just reminded me. I was born in '66 and no-one I knew wore one! My Mum made me wear one to keep me warm. I dont remember much about them to be honest other than I hated them.

I remember hating to wear them, not sure how long I wore them for. Maybe they went out when central heating came in?

Oh yeah! Gaberdine macks! Mum would tuck a newspaper over my chest under the gaberdine mack then shove me out the door to get the bus to school. Bus fare cost 1d(one old penny) and mum went nuts! when they put it up a halfpenny lol The newspaper went in the hedge just before i got to school lol Aged 11 i went to a convent skoool. They made us wear two pair of nicks.. one white, the other bottle green. We had clean whites every other day and clean greens twice a week lol OMG! the lace up shoes!.....sensible shoes mum called em...ugh!...mind you! I do have nice feet 50 years later!...shame about the rest of the body lol

I was born in 57 but never had a liberty bodice. Was made to wear a vest which I hated. Now I am middle aged I find that a vest is warm and comforting in the colder weather. Oh dear, I'm turning into my mother! (Sorry Margie!) LOL Viv
