Hi All - long time no chat I need help (lol) When I lived in the South we used to buy cheesecakes from the bakers - they were puff pastry topped with sponge then topped with shredded coconut set in icing - up here in the North they have never heard of them - please tell me I am not going insane Ann xx |

We have them here in Aberdeenshire but without the icing. they have just the sponge on top with a small bit of the pastry on the top. We call them cheesecakes although to me they are just sponge. My fil cuts his open and puts jam between the sponge and pastry. xx |

Never heard of what you describe, but the nearest sounds like a bakewell tart. |

I remember the thread months ago about the same thing. After much discussion it was found to be a regional item (London area I think). Deb |
