Fred - I echo what Wendy has just said - Community Police are a waste of time and money - I would rather have half the number of PROPERLY TRAINED FULLY FLEDGED REAL POLICE on our streets instead of them. REAL officers regard them much in the same way. Magsxx

Been married to mine for 23 years. He can retire in June after completing 30 years of service. There was a time when he dreaded the thought of not doing this job, but it has changed so much over the years, it's not the job he joined and he's had enough. Eldest daughter is engaged to PC just coming to the end of his probationary period and she experiencing everything her mum has - she should have learnt from me. Also, no, but he's a real nice young man and dedicated. The Police Support Officier you see on the street are not police officier, they are civilian who have had approximately two weeks training. The do not have the 'power of arrest' and you can't learn the 'law of the land' in two weeks. Hubby is a police training officier and when he was at training school the recruits were there for 14 weeks and had to take exams every week. Yes, there are some very good ones and there are some real swines. Take all sorts.

I have had very limited experience of policemen, but although I wouldn't describe them as 'lovely', they have been polite and efficient, which is all I would expect. nell

I guess it depends on which side of the law you are on. We have had dealings with them on both sides. The officers who have taken witness statements - One near fatal motorway smash that we were first on the scene for-the officer couldn't have been kinder. Two cases of actual bodily harm to family - kind, sympathetic and very helpful. Car breaks ins - dealt with with humour. Getting done for motoring offences- right swines! lol Both my daughter and son in law are police officers. I've seen my son in law after prolonged sessions at the local hospital after being there with the family of RTA victims. Ashen and exhausted physically and emotionally. Yet on the radio 'officer' mode clicks in again and I've been amazed at his professionalism. Ive seen my daughter break up a fight while off duty - Cool calm and frankly scary! I wouldn't want their job! Magsxx

NZ police are lovely too! My 17 year old daughter fainted yesterday after having had some blood taken. She was in a main shopping street and woke up in a burger bar with two policemen looking odwn on her. AS neither my husband or I were close by, one took her home while the other drove her car home!
