Len of the Chilterns

Len of the Chilterns Report 17 Jan 2008 22:29

I once belonged to a group of people interested in the reach of the mind. The group included a lady doctor and a rabbi. I am a qualified accountant and one time auditor and then an agnostic . Another male member of the group was a croupier and there was also Kay, the late Princess Margaret's hairdresser. There were others, maybe about 8 altogether but a very diverse bunch.

We were all quite serious and not given to trickery but well qualified to spot any. We met in a hired room in Belgravia, London.

On one occasion we tried a ouija (from French oui, German ja = yes/yes) board under controlled circumstances, which included formal prayers from those who were so minded. We wanted evidence, not personal messages. The results were quite startling and impressive.

I have met other people who have tried it in their homes, more casually, who had to get professional help to rid their house of poltergeist and other persistent, unwanted paranormal activity. So be advised not to try this at home.

my nan and her sisters did this and my nan would not talk about it to me(and we could talk about anythin) she just warned me against it and i have never tried it cos of her. My daughters asked me once and all i did was warn them not to. they told me years later that they tried it once but got scared (hence, why they asked) never tried it again!!

many years ago my sister bought a Ouija board for us to play at Christmas - we only played it the once and dumped it. We were all very sceptical and decided to ask it a question but of course it had to be a question to which we did not know the answer. In the end my brother in law said "Ask it what is my secretary's middle name" so we did and lo and behold it started spelling out E L I Z and that's when we stopped - Her middle name was Elizabeth. Would never touch a Ouija board with a bargepole

As an unruley teen my friends and i 'dabbled' quite frequently...
The last time i was present we decided to try it in the church (my friends mum is the caretaker and we often took hers keys when she was out- i know, horrible kids...)
Anyway - it was the most shocking, scarey thing i've EVER witnessed...
And that was the last time i did Ouija..

I remember playing about with one at school. Never again! I can't remember details, but remember that it scared us to death!!

It did teach me not to mess about with things that I didn't know enough about.

i've heard lots of stories, from friends,familly,... not good. So what was your experience Len?

Sarahh

Sarahh Report 17 Jan 2008 23:27

Me and my friends tried to get hold of one to try out at college once about 10 yrs ago and the gym instructor was really interested in doing it as he said he'd done it before, and asked around his friends to see about getting hold of one to try. But the deputy head got wind and put a firm stop to us trying it saying we shouldn't dare to try and bla bla bla.

I don't personally know anyone who's done one (well not that anyone's admitting to anyway) so don't know what horror stories have happened when using them, only one rumour I heard as a child that a neighbours family member did one and the glass broke on the board and she ended up being chased out the house by it and wouldn't go back to the house (never did know if it was a joke or not to stop people trying it).

I've always wondered what would happen if I tried one, but I wouldn't even try it a 1st time without people who have knowledge of doing it being there, plus what really puts me off now is that my mother would probably come out the board and terrorise me and the family til we're old and grey.

What are people's experiences of trying it if you don't mind me asking? If you don't want to reply thats fine, just curious as to some of the stories.

While i agree if your not sure what your messing about with, Dont Do It. You must remember your messing about with something that can take you into the black arts. Ouija boards are only ok to use if you have full knowedge of how it should be done, and respected properly. If you don't know about it leave it alone.

When I was a teen, back in the 60s, a group of us got together round a table. We had bits of paper with the alphabet and yes and no written on them - and used an upturned glass. We reckoned you could tell when someone was pushing the glass as you would hear it on the table, other times it would just glide across, almost like it wasnt touching. We ended the session very quickly when the glass suddenly shot across the table and the room and smashed against a wall. Not tried it since.

Very interesting thread... something I have never been involved in and would never have the courage to experience.
It's hard to believe there is 'something' in it, but there must be for so many have experienced it. Look forward to reading this thread.

Tried it once in the company of three friends, all with hands on the table. The glass moved to different letters; oddly didn't seem able to spell, but the fact that it did it was enough for us to stop and never do it again.

I have to agree with Ron, even innocent things like the glass one can open so many doors, the general census is dont do it!

Deanna

Deanna Report 18 Jan 2008 12:14

I did it when I was young too.

the glass and letters.
We leart alot of things and were often afraid, but never had anything bad happen.
However, I would never advise anyone to try it.

Hello Len, yes remember the Ouija board well......it was all the rage in the late 60's and 70's and we bought one.......until then people were using pieces of paper A to Z, a YES and a NO......and a glass....

When OH and I used it once it said that I was a cook living in Devonshire, named Sarah, worked on a farm and OH worked on the same farm and his name was John.......funnily enough we can both mimic the West Country accent as if we are locals, and have family living in Cornwall.......but treated it all as a bit of fun.....

Years later my teenage daughter was rooking around in the loft and came across the board.....took it out and with a bunch of friends had a go on it in the local park.......well one of her friends is Catholic and it spooked her so badly she had to be helped by her Priest.......we got rid of the board....
