Lainey, just treat her as if she is many different people. It's your tree, you can do what you like with it. :-)

I have people in my tree who changed their names, and I just enter them under each name. So their parents have twice as many children as they really had, and so on.

But for tracing down from them, I would pick one name -- so that all of John & Madge's children are shown as the children of, for example, John Boardman and Margery Murphy.

Since she won't have any ancestors attached to her, I think that if you do ever figure out what her real name was, you could just change the name on the record you have selected to attach her children to.


So the 1930 birth -- !! Seems to say the father was Meager and Madge was born Fry ... but who knows ...

And now not just another surname, but another way of spelling it.

I am still waiting to hear back from Manchester RO regarding the Sheila M Fry birth Cert.

I think I have just found the death cert for Antony Boardman in Peterborough in Nov 1996. As the birth record shows the exact DOB.

My husband had no idea that his dad Harry had this brother.

How did you hear Michael was born in Whitechapel? Stepney district cover that area so that birth seems a likely possibility.

Were you able to find the birth of Sheila's son? He is listed in 2 trees on here: 1 in Grove Park and the other in Orpington.

Thank you for all your help. Michael Fry's SIL states that he is was born in Whitechapel but he has been unable to find his birth record. So I think you may have cracked it with your suggestion. I will purchase the Birth cert asap.

This also makes me wonder if Sheila may have been recorded using the name Meagher/Meager. I wait with baited breath to hear back from Manchester RO. I know there seems to be no birth record for her as a Boardman, although she was known as a Boardman later. I will look into the Boardman/Walker link in Orpington.

The DOB is actually slightly off from the 1939 which says December, but I tend not to take that as too significant.


There is no Sheila Meag(h)er birth to fit, but I think you will score a hit with the Fry birth cert.

I have now received the birth certificate of Sheila Mary Fry born 1933 in Manchester. Mother Marjorie Fry no occupation of 10 Grafton Street Hulme. No Father.

So does this imply that JDB fathered her child in 1931 but not in 1933 but then fathered her next child in 1935 and then again in 1939?

Father's occupation: House Plumber of Salvation Army Home, Chapel Laner Hull. Mother's address: Salvation Army Home, Chapel Lane Hull.

Joonie, yet again you were right. Thank you, I missed the death for Antony you posted earlier. Will get on to that death asap.

Hello Kay, we looked into the probate and purchased a copy. As he died without making a will everything went to his wife he was estranged from. They were married in 1927 and split soon after. She went on to have a family with another man but they never divorced. So when JDB died she was his only legal heir and relict. I bet his children were a bit miffed!

New information to add which only causes more questions!

Today I received the Death Certificate for Anthony Boardman born 18 October 1931 in Greater Manchester. (although Birth Cert states Sculcoates, Yorkshire).

He died 5 Nov 1996 in Yaxley Peterborough. Retired Refuse Collector. The death was registered by the elusive brother-Charles Francis Vincent Michael Boardman who was present at death.

I cannot find a birth for this brother. I am still awaiting other certificates, which hopefully may mention him too.
