SylviaInCanada Report 11 Sep 2011 19:20

got an email regarding one of the posts that I reported from GR this morning ....... they said

"After considering your request we believe the content to be unacceptable and outside of the terms and conditions and message board guidelines of the site. This content has therefore been removed."

then they thank me

Notice that there are 2 more, but they have already been reported

Shame they do not put as much effort into doing other things as I am sure they will make a "success" of something

SylviaInCanada Report 13 Sep 2011 06:24

There were 18 of these things posted between about 8:30 pm UK time last night and 5:50 am this morning

All have been reported for review. I did 4.

patchem Report 13 Sep 2011 07:50

They had all gone by 07.50, so the board is looking a lot more sensible (for now).

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 14 Sep 2011 05:09

GR must be getting as fed up by now of it as we are.. surely????

Time to charge before being able to add to the success board. Would have thought that this should have been standard to begin with.

Thank you very much to everyone who reported the rogue posts on Success Stories and for your patience too. We have identified that the have been over 1000 rogue memberships (for spammers) created in the last month, but only in the last week have they escalated activity against our site. In addition to the rogue posts, they have also been sending lots of other invalid requests to the site which may well have been contributing to the performance issues. I can't tell whether they were using an automated system to send the requests, or whether it is people being paid very cheaply to manually make the requests, but we have done two things. First we have deleted all the accounts from our membership database (I checked and all posts by these members had been reported and removed). Secondly we have blocked the IP address so that they cannot access the website (or any of it's variations). We will continue to monitor this closely, and keep you updated.

Thanks again for you help and patience.

Elisabeth Report 14 Sep 2011 20:04

Thanks Phil,

Like Sylvia, I shall almost miss the emails from your team confirming the reporting of these posts.

Still don't quite understand how they, or anyone else, would be able to post on the Success Board when they hadn't paid a membership fee. Thought any Free members couldn't post, only receive messages from members.

jax Report 14 Sep 2011 20:24

I think it could be so that free members who have found people through contacts from others on trees can then post a thank you on success stories.

Yes Sylvia if I did'nt get to them first to report :-D
