Just to clarify a malicious thread/post is one that is posted with malice, malicious intent

noun
1. desire to inflict injury, harm, or suffering on another, either because of a hostile impulse or out of deep-seated meanness: the malice and spite of a lifelong enemy.

2. Law. evil intent on the part of a person who commits a wrongful act injurious to others.

Synonyms
1. ill will, spite, spitefulness; animosity, enmity; malevolence; venom, hate, hatred; bitterness,

EDIT:............CONTENT REMOVED

Because it had the desired affect so unless the problem rears its head again in which case I will post again

I think GR have not fully understood the significance of this problem as a whole

My suggestion is that when GR review reported threads they take all interactions into account before making their decision

Oh I think they understand completely but are not prepared to take the appropriate action against those perpertrators.

After all one wrong word from GR and they could be sued for all sorts of things from 'Ageism to Xenophobia'

What I do find odd is even without the last 2/3 weekends spats, it still takes them a while to decide whether or not to remove the offending posts.

In my book, and from my diversity training, something only has to offend 1 person and then whatever the offending item is be it a calendar or a post on here, it should be removed no questions asked.

Sadly though, unless the original thread itself is offensive (as has happened) they only remove the offending post which then leaves the original thread reading very strangely....

Hope this makes sense, it does to me.

GR just get your finger out

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 1 Jul 2013 22:14

GR has told me that they prefer NOT to take action .............. they prefer US to solve the problem(s) ourselves.

That does not work.

If it continues, they will discuss the perpetrator(s) actions with them, and try to get them to change their ways.

Even though their T&Cs say members can be banned from the site, and even though their warning letters say "3 warnings and you could be banned" ......... they will do anything NOT to ban.

Which leaves the rest of us in limbo, having to constantly watch out for such activities.

Like DC ........ I believe that if even one person is offended by a post, then that post should be removed and the poster of it warned very severely.

Porkie_Pie

Porkie_Pie Report 1 Jul 2013 22:29

DC, Sylvia, It is covered in GR's board guidelines

2. Inappropriate content

Please do not communicate anything that is, ( OR COULD BE CONSIDERED TO BE ) vulgar, profane or offensive.

Please do not communicate anything that is, or could be considered, abusive, intimidating, discriminatory, threatening, mean spirited or intended to harass or cause ( OR CAPABLE OF CAUSING ) trouble, upset or offence to anyone.

Please do not post anything that could be considered to be racially, ethnically, religiously or sexually discriminatory OR offensive, HATE RELATED, MALICIOUS, derogatory OR otherwise objectionable

In my experience, GR are very selective about whose inappropriate posts they remove..................

The only person I can recall them banning in the 10 years I have used the site was someone who was the innocent victim of a hate campaign waged by one individual.

Instead of banning the person who caused the trouble, they picked on her victim.............that was when the site changed from a vibrant entity where threads moved so quickly one couldn't keep up with them, to the 'shadow' of its former self it is now

SylviaInCanada Report 1 Jul 2013 23:38

PP ...................

it's all well and good having that in the Guidelines ............. but NOT if they do not follow through!

I've had the same experience .................

and we may even be thinking the same event!

I do know that way back when I first started posting on General Chat ....... for a very short period in 2004 .............. I was immediately harassed by one or two people who mistook me for another person called Sylvia, who had been a trouble maker.

She disappeared years ago ......... but was the reason for me adding "in Canada" to my name.

I did not post, or even look at General for at least another 2 years.

I was even accused on more than one occasion, and threatened with reporting unless I stopped posting, because someone thought I was our lovely friend JC. The rationale seemingly was that we both lived in Canada, and therefore must be the same person using 2 IDs????? :-S :-S :-S

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 1 Jul 2013 23:48

A lady I know who joined GR shortly after the death of her husband................to try to occupy her mind at that sad time.................was accused by a very long-standing member of being someone else, masquerading under a new board name.

The basis for this accusation was so flimsy as to be laughable, but my friend wasn't laughing................

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 2 Jul 2013 00:31

I bet she was not!!

such accusations happen ............. but seemingly much more on GR than on other sites!

Your comments .....1 Jul 2013 22:29

That was the message I received with regards to my postings and others about a member I do not see eye to eye with.

I have never been reported in the 7 years I have been with Genes, yet I got reprimanded for my comments and the perpetrator is still going around stirring people up on a regular basis.

If that member can't find a Thread to get into they creates one themselves or nudges up one we all left alone for 8 days ...I can't see why there are different rules for that member :-S

I have stayed low lately for fear of being suspended :-( and doing what Genes asked me to do but I am getting very fed up with this member spoiling Genes for everyone.
The boards are worryingly quiet :-( .

Genes can we please have the same rules apply to everyone and peace restored to the boards

Porkie_Pie Report 2 Jul 2013 08:15

Susan, I also being a member for 9 years and not had a post reported in all those years but I have had multiple posts reported in the last 12 months, some upheld and some reinstated, I had also never felt the need to RR anyone over those years but that has also changed in the last 12 months and all have been upheld.

Although I feel that GR don't appear to be even handed or take into account the interactions of the reporter and reported and any history they may have i don't live in fear of a suspension or a ban, (their are other sites) as has been said GR appear to not ban anyone and it appears a ban is only a ban from using the boards for a couple of days so absolutely zero deterrent at all or as my dad used to say "idle threats" are a waste of time

What ever you do don't "stay low" Stay strong and stand up to what is actualy just a couple? of individuals and a very small minority

Roy

Thank You for your reply.

My posts were not put back up so I suppose there were judged as bad.

I really love this site and do not want to change but it has gotten so bad of late nasty even.
I just don't understand what people get out of creating all this disruption :-S

Hope today is better for all of us :-D

Joy, I note your frustration, Hope to see your thread back soon.

Susan, Some people think they are above the rest of us mere mortals and think they belong on a pedestal,

They are deluding themselves and just need all our help to bring them back down to reality :-D

RR'ing in many instances lately are in my opinion a form of bullying.

Yes, by all means RR an offensive post, but then when you get to the tit for tat RR'ing that then becomes bullying to try to deter others from complaining or commenting on the original post.

Totally unacceptable behaviour in all walks of life

To be honest there are some right eejits on here, who think they rule the roost and GR allows them to continue in this vein.... :-(

Porkie_Pie

Porkie_Pie Report 2 Jul 2013 11:36

I agree DC, I also see some forms of "cross posting" taking something said in one post by a member and starting a thread using the content out of context in order to try and intimidate another with malice, malicious intent, is another form of Bullying but to be honest whilst that may work as a tactic with some it will never work on others

I myself refuse to be Bullied by anyone, I was brought up to always stand up and defend myself and never allow anyone to bully me,

Whether in real life or on the web it's better to get a bloody nose with head held high than to let the bully get away with it.

Roy your post at 8:15

I got 3 warnings and a ban all within 3-4 hours. Was not insulting members or baiting then with stupid comments or reporting members to GR for their use of an avator etc. Guilty of having a go at GR themselves. Some of the questions I was asking have never been answered.

My ban was supposed to be permanent but a member of the GR Team looked into it and the ban was lifted. But I was still absent from the boards for over a week.

So I feel the current ban of a few days does not match the crime

jax Report 2 Jul 2013 12:22

I have had two warnings in the last 18 months, both times they were comments about GR and not bad. I have seen far worse on here so why were my posts singled out? one was on a long thread when GB was banned and everyone was complaining about it.....just my one was reported....very odd

I believe both were reported by the same person, if GR will not say who it was, that person is going to continue to get the blame.....I cant see it being anyone else anyway

Porkie_Pie

Porkie_Pie Report 2 Jul 2013 12:52

GlitterBaby, I was aware of the circumstances of your ban at the time and also saw the support you had on GR's FB page highlighting the appalling way you had been treated,

I was banned from posting on GR's FB page for raising my concerns about decisions made by the GR team having not had satisfactory explanations from the team on this their main site, I'm still banned from posting on their FB page so I fully understand your situation,

Jax, As indicated by both my thread titles, Malicious reporting and this the Malicious threads/posts thread i suspect the "with malice, malicious intent" was the reason you were singled out,

I have reported posts several times in the 9 years that I have been a member ............................. for racist, homosexual, or very offensive remarks. Never for disagreement with me or a differing opinion in a discussion, or for malicious or tit-for-tat

That is ..................... not until this year have I RR'd anyone for "malicious" postings.

Also, not until this year have I ever received a pm saying basically, if you do not remove your posts, I will take legal action against you.

The posts????

They were not malicious, offensive or anything ................................. but I had used initials instead of the full name.

I, of course, reported that pm as "bullying", which I think it was ..................... and GR told me to just ignore it, there was nothing that the other person could do .............. but they would not issue a warning. They did not see it as bullying.

Like Roy, I was raised to be independent, and stand up for myself. I will not stand for bullying, either of myself or anyone else.

and I will not be baited by anyone else in an attempt to force me off the Boards.
