Right going back to basics,

Elizabeth
Christening: 10 JUL 1836 Malpas, Cheshire, England

Parents:
Father: Thomas Hewitt Family
Mother: Hannah

Submitted record, but looks good. The Elizabeth you have in 1841 i don't think is her.

This is an 1851 census with an Elizabeth listed, with a brother Samuel and also an Ann (Possible for Hannah) all lodgers.

1851 England Census
about Elizabeth Hewitt
Name: Elizabeth Hewitt
Age: 17
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1834
Relation: Lodger
Gender: Female
Where born: Stockport, Cheshire, England

Hannah Mess 7
John Mess 5
Ann Hewit 42

Still trying to unravel this one slowly....

Looking for them in 1861 now.

That one is the one i think is the right one....

As with the 1851 i have posted... I wonder what has happened to the other children?

It's the 1851 with the grandparents i was questioning.

Jacky, i have to go to work now... but i'll be back on the trail later.!! Sorry we didn't get any further forward, except maybe find a Annie E Crossley and a Crossley marriage?

I think it's now fairly safe to assume the Annie Elizabeth was not born as a Peckitt officially.

It is however possible her parents did not register her birth, as compulsary registration was not in force until 1875.

So you either have an unregistered child or one that was born under another name.

Now we did find the Hewitt/Croser/Crossley marriage, and also a Crossley birth of an Annie E, i wonder if that is a punt?

It's sadly a very small needle in a very large haystack. I'm free for a few hours and going to go over all the Hewiit marriages in the right timeframe and try to find them on the census returns and see what comes up.

My most likely start is all those families with an Annie E listed being born Leeds 1970 and with a mother called Elizabeth and go from there!

hi victoria
well where do i start lol i think the next stage is to try & find the PECKETT/PECKITT & HEWITT marriage ELIZABETH HEWITT married my gt uncle HENRY CROMACK i got cert & it states her father was THOMAS HEWITT so i have been lookin for her in the census & come up with a few possibles nothing concrete in the 1881 census she is now married to HENRY CROMACK with her daughter also on the census so got daughters marriage cert to see who the father was this also gave me ELIZABETH.S hubbys name THOMAS but we can.t find a marriage for THOMAS & ELIZABETH

Well firstly, it's the right cert... amongst other things i was worried it wouldn't be, so at least we have established she exists.

Now you have an issue... didn't we think he's been married before? You do have the common issue that he may not have been free to marry and they just said they were..... I have a few of those. In fact if you ever get a spare half hour read my thread on Annie Liggins, lol.... she 'wed' 3 times sadly the middle marriage (my partners GGfather) was a fake and she just said they were , even lying on the 1911 census!!! She did however marry her 3rd man, even tho the first was still alive.... and in true hollywood style the first hubby outlived everyone, and she dissapears into nowhere!!

Soi know from very bitter experience and loads of credits, they do this....often!
