I am currently doing a family tree for a friend however I have a query which I hope someone can help me with.

I have a William Hartley born 13th January 1847 who I found baptism record for. This is how I know his birth date as it states it. His parents are John and Sarah Hartley. William was baptised Carlton, Yorks 1859. I have applied for numerous birth certificates for William at various registry offices. Coincidently one of the birth certificates states william Hartley born 13th Jan 1847 however his parents are Henry Hartley and Elizabeth nee wilkinson born Barnoldswick, Skipton union, County of yorks. could this be the same william? No other william seemed to match.
I have sent messages to members on here who might be a match but no one has got back to me yet. Can anyone help please?

Thank you Ann for doing a look up. William Hartley married Nancy Preston. She actually married 3 times her maiden name being Preston married a Dixon and a Brindle.

Could it be possible for william Hartley to be born to different people and be baptised by other people?

i have a marriage certificate for william Hartley who married Nancy Brindle 28th Aug 1856 Carleton. His father is John Hartley on the marriage cert. I just cant find his birth cert. Yes I have him on census with his son Clarence victor Hartley.

Ann, I did do a search for a John Hartley on the census and there was one living with his brother Henry Hartley. it was in yorkshire. john was about 20 yrs or 25 yrs. do you think they could be connected? Maybe a long shot but thought someone might think the same as me. agnes does eem a bit of a coincidence.

What was the father John Hartley's occupation on the marriage certificate? Who were the witnesses? - might give us some further clues.

This is another coincidence - another couple with the same name marrying 30 years later...

EDIT - This IS the marriage, the psot above must be a typo where it says 1856.
