Mel, it may have been used as a residence for Nurses. As I've said I have tried, unsuccessfully to research her nursing career, someone told me she was a Matron in her later years, but I have no idea where to find the information. I don't know what type of nurse she was later on (District, Midwife, Matron....).

Many many years ago I used to take two ladies to Dagenham Hospital to visit a friend. My hubby had a mini cab firm and that would have been around that time.

Lee50 Report 19 Jul 2018 13:56

Wow what a small world Mel. Was it a big hospital? Wouldn't it have been strange if they were visiting her!

She would have been 90 when she died, I have no idea what happened to her after my gran died, she lived 14 years longer than her. They were sisters.

Just wondering has anyone access to Ancestry records that could look at these records for Kate -

https://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?_phsrc=pyc15&_phstart=successSource&usePUBJs=true&qh=pNWNFunJtZdZ53lRT2YiPA%3D%3D&db=NursingReg&gss=angs-d&new=1&rank=1&msT=1&gsfn=Kate%20Lottie&gsfn_x=0&gsln=Edwards&gsln_x=0&msrpn__ftp=London,%20London,%20England&msrpn=85535&MSAV=1&uidh=zx5&ssrc=pt_t119365139_p230189789242&gl=&gst=

I cant view them. Thank you.

From that long link you gave, Lee -

it doesn't show anything specifically for Kate Lottie Edwards.

There are several records for a Kate Edwards, but I don't think she's your Kate.

1925 and 1928 Cheltenham;
1931, 1934, 1937, and 1940 Bishop's Cleeve, Cheltenham.

Looking at the 1940 entry -

Address: Osborne Villa, Evesham Road, Bishop's Cleeve, Cheltenham.
Date & place of registration: Sept 21, 1923, London.
Qualifications: Cert 1921-23, Southwark Hosp, London

I've also tried searching that database with just the names Kate Lottie, no surname, and no place of residence - but no results.

Lee50 Report 20 Jul 2018 13:11

Thank you. I really don’t know. Southwark in London May be right, but I don’t know why she would have been in Cheltenham. Thank you for looking for me.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 20 Jul 2018 13:37

No, she's definitely not your Kate.

Yours was in Clapham in 1939.

The one in Bishop's Cleeve was at Osborne House in both 1937 and 1940, so presumably also in 1939, though I don't see her on the 1939 register

ArgyllGran, thank you for looking for me, that's brilliant!

Thanks for your help

Greyghost, thankyou for your help.

I received the copy of her will. Really interesting and I have found she had a niece Gwendoline and nephew Eric in County Cork, Ireland, who were two of her beneficiaries.

They were 'Edwards' so they would have to have been one of Kate's brothers children. She had two brothers.

I wonder if it would be possible to eventually trace a living relative for her. I hope so. Fingers crossed.

:-0 Wow.

Kates brothers were Cecil b1891 and Leonard b1895, so these could definitely be Eric and Gwendoline.

Youghal is the place stated on the will, so it must be them

Thank you so much both of you x

Lee50

Lee50 Report 26 Jul 2018 21:47

ArgyllGran can I just ask you, that last entry there, the names at the bottom, what are they?

Obviously Eric, but is his wife named there? What would they relate to?

KathleenBell

KathleenBell Report 26 Jul 2018 21:48

If you bought the marriage certificate it should name Gwendoline's father so you would know which branch of the family.

You could also then look for children for Gwendoline and her husband.

Kath. x

Lee50

Lee50 Report 26 Jul 2018 21:53

Just realised I can't add them to my tree, I still have no idea who there father was, Cecil or Leonard!

Sorry is anyone able to help here?

I know they lived at Sunmount. Youghal. County Cork if that's any help?

Lee50

Lee50 Report 26 Jul 2018 21:55

Thanks Kath. I am quite ignorant of researching Irish ancestors, I suppose you have to apply for certificates in Ireland, not through our GRO. I will have a look.

KathleenBell

KathleenBell Report 26 Jul 2018 21:59

The names ArgyllGran has given are four people who appear on the same page of marriages. One of the two females will be Eric's wife but you would need the certificate to know which one.

Could this be Cyril's marriage (which would make it likely that Gwendoline and Eric's are his since they were born in the same place)?:-

Last name Edwards
