There's this, if accurate:

https://www.ancestry.co.uk/genealogy/records/maurice-moreau-blake-24-lctzxb

"Born in Rangoon, Burma on 19 May 1897 to Herbert Alexander Long Blake and Louisa Florence Moreau. Maurice Moreau Blake married Bessie Bwye. He passed away on 3 MAY 1974 in Chester Hospital."

These details are from a tree on Ancestry, which in turn takes info from 1911 census, and his marriage and death records - no birth record to prove DOB or POB.

So which Maurice are you looking for, Pam?

ArgyllGran Report 25 Sep 2019 12:41

The Supplement to the London Gazette, 1 Jan 1947, lists (along with many other people)

Maurice Moreau Blake, Tour Superintendent, Office of the Military Secretary to his Excellency the Viceroy [ of India ]

https://www.thegazette.co.uk › London › issue › supplement › data

But I don't know in what context he's listed - don't know what the list is of.

The mention in the Gazette in 1947 was of him being awarded the British Empire Medal.

................but I thought we were looking for the Maurice Blake born 22 Jan 1896 ,
who married Doris Taylor ??

Dea

Dea Report 25 Sep 2019 20:48

Well yes we were but this one would appear to fit some of the detail put forward so far - i.e. born in Burma, connected to Chester and seems to fit the 1911 census ??

He was not married to Doris E in 1930 but that seems to be the only thing which goes against him ?

We really need Pamela to come back with some more detail...............

ArgyllGran Report 5 Oct 2019 17:36

There are a few George Blakes in 1939, who are described as retired civil servant, or just retired, or OAP - and as we have no idea where he was living, or if he was still alive in 1939, it's impossible to say if any of them is Maurice's father.

Also travelling with her - Mr. G. Blake (aged 19 so c.1894)
and Mr. M Blake (aged 17 so c1896) !!

Now, - IF we are sure that 'our' Maurice had a sister Kathleen and that she also had a brother George Frederick/ Frederick G ? ) then surely these 3 travelling together could well fit the bill ??

To me though, that would mean that there was little room for a brother called 'Patrick' and that 'our' Maurice arrived after the 1911 so the Patrick and Maurice at Ealing Grammar school are now in doubt ?? (Personally, I was never sure that they were 'ours' unless you have entirely separate proof that 'our Maurice' had a brother of that name???)

The accurate facts for my Maurice Blake are that he was born on 22nd January 1896 Burma, India. He died in 1978 Cuckfield West Sussex England. He attended the Ealing Grammar School in 1911. His occupation was Clerk in Civil Service. He married Doris Ethel Taylor on 19 April 1930. His Parents are George Blake and Mary Ann Bartholomew married 8th August 1888. His Sister Kathleen Blake was born 30th November 1889. India. There is also another Brother Frederick born 5th July 1894 Rangoon India and baptised 26th August 1896. Kathleen did not marry .
I have taken Patrick Blake out of the equation for the time being . Thank you all Pam

Dea Report 6 Oct 2019 21:58

So - forgive me but 'if' the 1911 census is 'your' Maurice then Patrick is back in there ??? - Personally, I am not sure that the 1911 'Maurice' is yours - perhaps they were all related and therefore went along to the same schools when they came to England ?
