Welcome to the boards, Neil.

This is the only birth of an Angus McArthur/MacArthur in Campbeltown (note spelling) around 1819:

MACARTHUR
ANGUS
Parents: DONALD MACARTHUR/CATHARINE MACILVOIL
M
30/03/1815

and this is the nearest Margaret McKenzie birth to 1820:

MACKENZIE

Of course I have no idea if either of them is who you're looking for.

I don't see a marriage in Campbeltown for a couple of those names. Have you found their marriage?

Re the marriage posted by safc -
if they both belonged to Campbeltown, it seems unlikely that they would have married on the Isles of Skye.

Where did you find the info that they were from Campbeltown?

OK, looking at the 1861 census posted above, here's the birth of the daughter Margaret:

MCARTHUR, MARGARET mms MCCLELLAN
GRO Reference: 1858 S Quarter in SOUTHAMPTON Volume 02C Page 10

If that's the case, then McLaren as mms for the other children's births could be a mis-reading of the handwriting for McClellan or similar name.

Therefore this could be the parents' marriage:

MCARTHUR
ANGUS
MARGARET MCLELLAN/
25/01/1842
507/
60 379
Campbeltown

If you buy credits on Scotlands People (min 30 credits for £7.50) you can view and print the birth and marriage records for 6 credits per record.

Unfortunately, the marriage record, which is just a parish record, and not a marriage cert as such, will not give you the names of the parents of either Angus or Margaret.

Thank you so far everyone,

Ive spoken to a family member who had also done a family tree a while ago and they have told me that Angus McArthur was married to a Margaret McKenzie both from Cambletown, Scotland, as we know they did move away to Southampton as this is where all my family live now but it would be nice to find out a bit more about there life and family in Scotland,

I wont give up
Stay safe everyone

greyghost

greyghost Report 30 Mar 2020 19:00

Margaret's surname would appear to be McLellan NOT McKenzie. Above replies which you confirm are correct family show Angus as a Fireman 1861 and 1871. The children's births all show her surname as McLellen too

Neil

Neil Report 30 Mar 2020 19:08

Ive havnt found any marriage details as of yet, so not sure if they were married in Cambeltown or not but i do know that they moved to Southampton between 1851 and 1854
