That census is 1861, which you've had before

What was Esther's address when she married in 1877?

Have you looked for Samuel's death?

When Mary died, who was the informant?

I can't see any of the family in 1871 - let alone Samuel.

At least not together. They have such common names that there are lots of possibilities for them all individually.

"Then Samuel is down as deceased on his daughters marriage in 1877 in salford???...But where is he on the 1871 census please."

No reason to assume he's on the 1871 census.

As Mary died in Chorlton reg district, there's this possibility for Samuel's death, if the informant didn't get his age quite right:

SMITH, SAMUEL 40
GRO Reference: 1864 J Quarter in CHORLTON Volume 08C Page 375

Does Mary's death cert say if she was a widow or not?

Why do you discount the 1893 marriage?

cane

cane Report 28 Sep 2020 12:28

Hi Erkah
I discounted the stockport lot due to the fact that they are not mine..My lot all stick in the Chorlton/Hulme area

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 28 Sep 2020 12:37

But Samuel's daughter (mms Barber) is the only Elizabeth Amelia Smith born anywhere in Lancashire 1850-60.

The 1893 marriage must be hers.
