That's the one in your opening post -
https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro - gives ages at death and the chance to check for similar sounding variations and phonetically similar variations

Name: Age at Death (in years):

I have found this one on Free BMD and its not in your list ErikaH

George Proppett d 1859 8a pg 193 Q4. Nantwich

Also listed as George Prophett same details probably a correction to spelling.

Are you able to look for this elsewhere where it may give an age?

I'm sure the answer is in the spelling of his surname and there are so many variations, although there are not many deaths even using different spellings.

Re-posting the baptism dates of the siblings you mention - for ease of reference:

Siblings of George 1816:

Sarah Prophet 1813
Thomas Proffit 1821
John Profitt 1799

All baptised in Sandbach, children of George and Elizabeth of Betchton.

There may have been miscarriages or stillbirths between John and Sarah, of which there won't be any record.

Good afternoon all.

Well the 2 certs arrived today. The death cert was not the correct George Profit as his occupation was a railway worker who died when he was crushed between 2 coaches on the railway....how awful.

However the marriage cert between George & Maryann is correct. It gives his occupation as a boatman and his father is also George as some of you correctly stated.

With this extra info you all found re siblings, I can now rewrite that branch of the tree but still don't know when George died?

What I have just realised also is there is a gap of 14 years between John & Sarah so there could have been other siblings I guess?

My own findings were completely wrong as I had John Proffitt and Anne Bane as Georges parents and now as it was ages ago cannot find how I arrived at that info.??
So big thankyou to all of you who helped with this for me.

Really appreciated

Yes I noticed these children were born before she married again!
She didn't waste much time did she probably needed a sugar daddy to care for all her other "Prophet" children and to keep him happy, had a few more ;-) ;-)

Look closely at the marriage record I posted, and remember, also, that in those days people didn't always know exactly when they were born

They did also lie, of course - especially women with younger husbands ;-) ;-)

Oh ty for finding this extra info especially the siblings, that's fantastic info.

Just wondering about Mary Ann's age as on the 1851 census she says she was 24 so born in 1827???? but maybe she also lied?

As George is said to be 24 in 1841, that would mean he was born c1817.

If he was born in 1822 (per the 1859 death record, IF that's accurate), he would only have been 19 when he married Mary.

But maybe he lied!

Just a suggestion:

George Prophet
in the Cheshire, England, Select Bishop's Transcripts, 1576-1933
Name George Prophet
Gender Male
Baptism Date 28 Apr 1816
Baptism Place Sandbach, Cheshire, England
Father George Prophet
Mother Elizabeth
FHL Film Number 1751911

His marriage record says his father was George, and he was "of Betteton", which I take to mean Betchton.
Betchton is only a couple of miles from Sandbach.

EDIT:
Oops - sorry, ErikaH. I didn't notice you'd already posted that.

ErikaH Report 18 Apr 2024 12:46

George’s mother’s name was Elizabeth - as per the man’s baptism record which I posted. Betty is the common diminutive thereof.

George was a BOATMAN - he could have been anywhere

As you can see, Mary was ‘married’ when 1851 census was taken
