..........what illusions did you have when young that have been shattered by age and experience?

Or conversely......what did you once believe in that time has not changed?

I realised quite a while ago that I was never going to marry George Michael :0)

Uggers

Uggers Report 20 Aug 2009 09:48

Soooooo many...I believed that fate would step in and sort things out and that things were *meant* to happen, I believed that weight gain in my early thirties was temporary and my metabolism would kick in at some point, I never thought I would say things like "I'd like to be eighteen and know then what I know now" etc

But, I still believe that all you need is love and the best things in life are free....slightly sick making but true:)

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 20 Aug 2009 09:55

Uggers my love - I agree. I also still believe that love is all important and money can't buy happiness and contentment, love or true freedom.

I also now believe that not all people are good - I once thought they were. And remember Roger Whittaker's song "I don't believe in if anymore" - well I don't.

Muffy you can still dream. Between the two of us we may be able to convince him that he's going through a silly phase:))

I watched Juke Box Jury on TV and knew I wanted to be a singer
never thought you at to sing in tune I just thought it would be so easy
went to join a choir told you have a powerful voice but sorry no
then I found out I was tone deaf
yes I do feel sorry for singers on X factor you just think you sound brilliant then realise no one else can bear hearing you sing

SueMaid Report 20 Aug 2009 10:34

Mabel I would love to be able to sing too. But I was disillusioned long ago when I realised that only I thought I was any good.

I believed, as all children do, that adults have all the answers; and one day I would have them too. Of course, I now know, and have done for a long time, that not only do I not know the answers; but that half the time I do not have the right questions either.

It's also quite disconcerting when you find out that doctors are winging it most of the time as well.

When I was a child I believed that it would be wonderful to be an adult. I would be able to do anything I wanted and no-one could tell me what to do. I've known for a long time being an adult wasn't all it was cracked up to be. You have more restrictions and more responsibilities as an adult than you ever have as a child.
