Maggie, betweem my two and for a couple of years after no 2, I worked on a potato harvester, from end of sept to beginning of dec, though we still hand picked the headland. Boy was that hard work!!!

Almost as bad as onion wringing.

My Mums craving with my older sister was custard... probably why in her baby photos she always has her tongue sticking out.

When pregnant with me she ate coal (pica). Don't know why.

Me.... when expecting my first son it was fresh orange juice and muesli yoghurt. Fresh coffee with the second son.

With my daughter..... hate to admit it but it was cigs..... probably because I was trying to give them up.

xx

I've heard of people eating coal. Apparently its caused by a lack of a certain mineral in the body which can be found in coal. We must be able to smell it without knowing it.

Now I'm a real tea drinker, but I went right off it in both pregnancies. Later on I could drink black coffee occasionally, but no tea...

During all four pregnancies, it was tomatoes - in any form - raw tomatoes, tomatoes on toast, tomato soup, tomato sauce, etc..etc.

Had one early miscarriage and the fad wss for ginger beer.

TW - this potato harvesting wasn't on a harvester - it was by hand!
we only had a 'mechanical' planter - ie we sat on it, it was pulled along by the tractor, we put the plants in the tines which came up between our calves.
Harvesting - it was all by hand!

I drank loads of ginger beer when i was pregnant with no 1...But had hyperemesis (severe vomiting) now, I cannot stand the stuff, even the smell of it makes me feel queasy!

Maggie,we planted celery like that. sitting and planting was ok, filling the racks with plants as we went along for the planters was blimmin hard work, as was filling the gaps by hand, walking behind the setter.

Those were the days LOL

I just remembered. My stepmother, who I knew before she got with my dad, with all her first three fancied Frys Turkish Delight. She hated it otherwise. With her last pregnancy, she stared eating twixs, instead of turkish delight. I always said she was having twins.

She never had an ultrasound, so until she actually went into early labour, and had an emergency ceaser (sp) we never knew she was actually having twins....

Daff, never had them from Famagusta market, but we used to go to our local kebab shop in Limasoll where the owner was also the butcher and he made all his own kebabs, they were gorgeous. could just eat one now.
