Help... I need to buy an ordance (edit: ordinance, even, lol I have sticky key syndrome!) survey map....... and it has it available in TIFF format and hard copy....... and one other digital thingy I have never heard of... but have heard of Tiff.... now, my question is.... anyone know how I would persuade my pc to read a TIFF file?

I know.... I am a bit dim when it comes to these techno things, lolol.

Any help will be very much appreciated, lololol

T THINKS you would be able to read it in Picasa it will be a large file to download. What is the other format. Is it expensive (i.e. worth risking? He also said if you can't read it if you send it to him he will try and make it readable.

I need a 1:500 scale map, with my property being the focal point.... there is a bit of a dispute going on at the planning department... one planning officer thinks I have to get planning permission.... the other (from the highways, engineering and construction department) says not... also one has said the gate has to be 5.5 metres inside the boundary of my property... which would mean that my cars would still not be gated in, lolol!! The other says that is ridiculous.... *huge sigh* however... one thinks there is a clause in a by-law that says caravans must not be parked on driveways.... except for loading/unloading and general maintenance.....

Thank T for me... R could probably do it, but he isn't here to ask, lolol I have googled it, and it means zilch to me... I'll go and have a look on the site to see what the other digital thingy is.

Thanks a lot :¬))

Tagged Image File Format, the TIFF format is widely supported by image-manipulation applications, by publishing and page layout applications.

Most PC's will already have software capable of opening a Tiff file but if not it is easy enough to install a tiff viewer.

Just go to Download.com and search for ‘tiff viewer’ and you’ll see plenty of options for both free and commercial image viewer programs that will let you view those files.

I have said before about the caravan rules Daff, as they apply on this site, but I wondered if it was something that had died out as your house is younger than ours.

MrDaff Report 9 Oct 2009 14:44

Thank you Dizzi... just looked and bookmarked it for a good look later.

Ann... they have just contacted me, and it would seem that there are no by-laws etc in place.

And although we own that piece of land... we do have to get planning permission for a change of use from scrubby grass, all uneven and dreadful... to landscaped, with borders and flowers and fenced off. At great cost to us... of course, no-one else in the street has needed to, as they are not on the turning circle, lol

So guess what we shall be doing this weekend, lol.... this has cost a small fortune, and not a plant has been planted, lolol

Oh well, it will be worth it in the long run...... just think of all that exotic planting we can have there. Eventually.

IF ITS TO SECURE YOUR CARS ,
WHAT ABOUT A KEY POLE, THE ONES YOU UNLOCK
POLE DROPS DRIVE CAR IN LIFT POLE AND LOCK

AnninGlos Report 9 Oct 2009 15:21

I suspect it is mainly the fence that requires planning permission. There is plenty of room to turn without going over your land isn't here?
For security Dizzi's idea is a good one. Not heard that before about gates having to be 5 metres inside property. Does that mean they allow for people to turn in your drive? I see loads of properties with the gates on the boundary.

Hiya Dizzi.... it's a bit more complex than that.... I have a couple of local youths and the horrible bloke next door thinking they can just walk through my garden as they please.... I have had branches and stones thrown at me... and nasty things said to me... plus my car has had the tyres slashed twice this year alone, when I was in hospital. I want a fence as high as I can go.... and it would now seem that I can't even dig borders to plant in without planning permission.... I was told last year that I didn't need it, but this year that I do, lol I was only doing what I was told to do last year.... which was to inform them of my plans when I was ready to do the work.....

I am also taking legal action against the neighbour.... so obviously he will object to the fence, lol..... he is one of the folk I want to keep out! lol

Oh well.... I've waited four years, I can wait a bit longer.

How about planting tree where they shouldn't be? Did you ask about that one? Or are you keeping that as retribution if necessary? Pity about there being no by laws. However, if a van is used as an extra room I am sure that would need planning permission!!

MrDaff

MrDaff Report 9 Oct 2009 15:39

Ann..... it would seem I have to get planning permission for that, as well, lolol!!

I am spitting feathers at the moment!!

Edit.... I asked about that.... and it would seem that is ok... even though the extra room is actually encroaching on land that I own, but have to get planning permission to shove a ruddy daffodil into!! I am seething... but if the whole thing comes to court, at least it will be more ammunition, lol!! Somehow!!

No I meant his trees!! Leylandi things.

MrDaff

MrDaff Report 9 Oct 2009 16:04

Ahhh..... now I did mention that, funnily enough...... but the chappie didn't really go into it.... other than to say that I wouldn't be allowed.... and then I pointed out that it was in the *green* area of his property.... he did say that it was interesting.... when I send in the planning application.... I shall make sure that those trees get into some of the photographs, lolol!! ;¬))

He also mentioned the planting in my photograph..... I had enclosed a couple... and said that I would probably have to re-apply for planning permission for that as well... until I pointed out that it actually was planted by the builders, and that it formed part of the contract with the planning department, lol...

Also pointed out that on our *green bit* which should be pavement but isn't... there was originally loads of planting.... and guess who ripped it all out??? Mr Caravan man!! So presumably I can replant that with the sort of municipal planting scheme.... but I can't put in any hollyhocks or lavender, lolol

*huge Sigh*

Just drop a few seeds, self seeded,,,, simples!!!

MrDaff

MrDaff Report 9 Oct 2009 16:18

I might be tempted to do just that, lol.... bamboo seeds under the flaming caravan, lol!! ;¬))

Well, we knew we would have a fight on our hands... but we didn't expect the fight to include battling for planning permission for flower beds on our own bit of land, lol.... mind you, we did know that we might have to apply for it to put gravel down at the front... some new laws came into effect this year, and as we are on a flood plain, we have to be careful what we use... I am going to use the more efficient drainage argument, lol.... Have got B researching it at the moment... well, it'll give him sommat to use his brain on, lol

Now the gates.... really bizarrre... he seemed to think we wanted a single gate, to open out, onto the road.... he said that we might be allowed to have double ones opening into the garden, lol..... oh, and as there is parking for three cars, we mustn't reduce that number.... well, we don't want to!!

Right.... lets go and see if anyone else has ever had this problem.... off to google!!

Yes I knew about the gravel/block paving law. Strange as neighbours down the road from us have had block paving done in the past month. I didn't see a planning request go up. Maybe for that they don't have to post it. I didn't realise that you had to have planning permission for flower beds on your own land though

MrDaff Report 9 Oct 2009 16:33

I know, Ann.... it seems very odd.... the poor lad was very patient with me... but he just kept on saying that it was designated as green area.... but there is nothing to indicate that, the green area is a band where a pavement would be.... and is clearly marked... we don't own that bit, but are responsible for the upkeep..... that is fine... but he is talking about the bit from next door's drive, garage wall, and fence..... to our own driveway... he did say that we could probably get away with putting a small border running alongside the driveway.... it all seems very strange. But that is quite a big bit of garden.... and has the best sunshine, lol!!
