MrDaff Report 16 Oct 2009 12:06

Many of you may know that last year, on Friday, 17th October, my world was turned upside down... I was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia, and was told that without the treatment (which was life threatening in itself as it was so very severe) I would be dead by Christmas... Hobsons choice, lol!! pop my clogs from the AML or risk popping my clogs from the treatment!!

But here I am, 12 months down the line.... and my chances have doubled, lol.... my statistics have changed as of today.... I now have half the chances of relapse that I had before, lol.... Onward and upward

That is such a huge relief.

The people here, on GR, have been truly wonderful to me.... they have prayed, positive thoughted, sent me silly stuff to cheer me up and make me laugh.... sent me other stuff that was a huge surprise... lovely.... and also kept alive three threads (two managed to be whooshed.... but I now have the third, put up by Taff, Mwah......

This last year has been a real rollercoaster of a ride.... I have learned so much, about myself, and about the goodness of others, many I have never even met, who have laughed, joked, teased, cried and generally lived through my blip with me.

They also gave so much support to my lovely husband, and at a time when he really thought he was going to lose me. They made him laugh.... they expected updates... they told him off if he wasn't quick enough... they flirted with him, they were wonderful... you all know who you are.

I just wanted everyone who has supported me to know how grateful we are..... and for you to know that you all made a tough time so much more bearable for us both.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

Loads of love

Daff xxxxx

ps.... putting this up now, cos I will be getting merry on a bottle of special plonk tonight, lolol xxxxx

You pop into my thoughts when I think about Christmas :)) and I cannot imagine the celebrations that will be going on in your house this year and rightly so, you deserve some great fun after this year.

MrDaff Report 16 Oct 2009 14:18

Thank you so much.... Mary, it might well be two, lolol!!

Lorraine.... my thoughts are with your dad and brother... I also have a brother and sister who have battled different cancers, so as a family, we know how tough it is from both sides of the cancer bench..... it is a very scary time for all concerned. xxxxxx

Thank you Linda.... and thank you for your lovely threads, too... I always read it, and it is such a boost to see my name there... it has helped so much to know that people care.

Jeniwren.... that day may come, lol.... maybe when I am at the bottom of the bottle! I know that for a while, I was too afraid to even listen to a mushy song, in case it made me cry... I was convinced that if I cried, I would never stop and I would end up feeling negative, lolol.... so I surrounded myself with laughter... well, my friends on here made sure I was surrounded with it, lol.... I did shed a couple of tears at the love and kindness I was shown, but that was different. That still blows me away, just thinking of it.

Thank you Dutch... we will, lol!

Lol Claire, and thank you.... I do have a strange effect on people, lolol..... Christmas will never be the same, lol.... Hubby is putting my outside lights up tomorrow...... ;¬)) Hangover or no hangover;¬))

Jane/Helen... thank you....

I shall raise a toast to everyone tonight!

Love

Dear Daff - congrats for surviving the past year so gallantly, you've taught us all a lot, I may watch from the sidelines but I care - your strength has helped others fight their fights too.

I have already said elsewhere Daff how pleased we both are that you have made it to this point and we just know that this time next year will be even bigger celebrations. Why do we all support you?? Because you are worth it. And so is the lovely R who doesn't say much (well he doesn't get a chance does he?) but thinks a lot!!!! Cheers to both of you.

Daff,
It's so good to be able to read this one year on and see what a long way you've come. To always remain so positive and cheerful has been remarkable in itself, but then you are a one-off aren't you and you and your lovely family have something very special worth fighting for.
It was lovely to see you in June, looking so great and ever smiling. We share some happy long-ago memories and I'm so pleased that we found each other again through GR.

Enjoy that drink, ....and you too R, cos you have looked after Daff so well.

Love to you all from all here with me

It's been that long?? It has - my mum and sister were in the thick of it at the same time, and my mum had just got the long blonde wig in preparation, from the Hallowe'en stock. (Her wavey blonde hair has grown back white and frizzy - hope you've been spared!)

So glad for you. Such tough times, such a wonderful place now to look back from.
