Yes Rose, if the rash gets worse. But as she's only just got back from the doctors, I really feel in this instance that Romany was simply asking if there was anything ELSE she could do in the meantime.

Obviously, and it goes without saying, if the poor little mite gets worse by later tonight, or by morning then of course she must go to hospital. But in the context in which the original question was asked, I read it to mean, anything else she can do to relieve the itching, which must be distressing for the child.

She has done nothing wrong, in coming on here seeking advice AFTER seeing the doctor just moments before.

So far on top of the medicine from the doctor, it's been recommended she has Calpol & Piriton...and thats good advice

Hi Teresa, all the advice I would have given , re calamine and cotton, has been given already, and no nothing wrong with asking on here... it just sounded to me that Romany was worried about the speed at the doctor's ? Hopefully the little one will be starting to feel better soon,

xx

Julie.

Perhaps if a reread is done,

A Piriton based medication is what has been given on Precription,,,,,,,,,,by a medical person,,,,,,,the doctor,,,Piriton hasnt been advised by anyone on here,,,,,,,,,it would certainly be ill advised to use Calpol.....along side Pitriton unless by a MD.......

Julie, the little girl was prescribed piriton by her doctor, not advised by someone on here.

Kay..i think you need to reread as this was when it was said

Jane Today at 18:39 Request review
I think she could have some Calpol as well as the Piriton.I think it will soon start to settle once the Piriton kicks in.

I'll agree that unless the doctor advised it, it wouldn't be right to give calpol. It won't do anything to ease the itching, it's paracetamol. If the child is showing signs of temperature, then I'm sure only then would a doctor advise Calpol be used.

But to be fair, you did say 'on top of the medicine prescribed, she was adivsed to have calpol AND piriton' All I was saying is that Piriton IS the medicine prescribed.

At the end of the day, there is nothing else Romany can do except watch carefully and wait for the piriton to take effect, and keep the skin moist with the aqua. Keeping her cool and wearing cotton will help, as these don't irritate or cause sweating like other materials.

Kay???? Report 30 Nov 2009 19:40

As said,,,it would be ill advised to include or recommend any other medication other than whats been given by a qualified person,,,,,,and certianly should be advised by anyone unqualified.......especially on WWW.

I said over the counter Calamine Lotion ....

Im sure mum will know should she need expert advise then NHS direct or other is the way to go,,,,,,

AW now, please stop... we had a worried mum, who took her littlie to the doctor, got prescribed stuff... and then asked other people how long before her little one would feel better, and until the medicine began to take effect was there anything else at all she could do to ease it, as like most mums, she couldn't bear to see her baby hurting... even though she knew it would ease.... eventually, like, when would *eventually* be?

I would have been in exactly the same state as Romany if it had been my little granddaughter who was staying last week........ and I know that my sons ex still phones me to get back up of what the doctor has said!!

So I do hope little one is beginning to feel better now,Romany, and please feel free to ask questions such as that if you feel unsure in the future xxxx

Love and gentle (((((hugs))))))

I feel for you, Romany, it's very distressing watchng a small child suffering, and being unable to do anything instantly to relieve them.

My youngest was allergic to a lot of things, including bubble bath, as is my grand daughter. The only one I could ever use was/is 'Matey'

My youngest also loved satsuma's, but if she ate more than 3 in one session (and she was quite capable of eating a lot more!), she would turn orange and get blisters on her chest! She soon learned!

Hope your grand daughter feels better soon.

Is there anything she might have eaten that could have caused the rash? Strawberries?

Lordy, if I'd known a simple post would get heated I wouldnt have asked. It seems everything has to turn into an argument on here nowdays. Thankyou ladies for your advice, so many replies I wont name you all individually but I do appreciate it! Theresa, many thanks. She's finally fallen asleep, think her daddy coming home has calmed her down a bit, the rash and spots are as bad as ever but hopefully tomorrow may ease things up a bit. Only asked peoples advice as my 3 kids are usually so healthy they never set foot in a doctors let alone the hospital, so I feel a bit thrown in at the deep end....they dont even get flu! Just wondered if there was anything I was missing. But thanks ladies xxxxxxx

Aww bless her, seems like the Piriton the doctor prescribed is doing the trick. I hope the itching has eased for her. It should start fading by morning.

Romany

I hope she is feeling better and less itchy.

And with regard to asking for help on here even though we know what to do it is often reasuring being told what others would do amd last time i looked it wasnt a crime to be a worried mum reaching out for reasurrance even if they had just been to Dr.

My daughter once had a reaction to my SIL's dog and the Doc prescribed Piriton and it took a while to kick in, over night if I remember rightly, and we gave her Calpol as well, mainly to settle and calm her off to sleep

I'm sure she will be feeling a lot better in the morning
