red ones are lovely, but I would have to travel a long way to see one in the wild! we have the ratty ones here and they did up EVERYTHING that I plant in tubs in the front or back garden. I used to love 'em but now I could cheerfully string 'em up :-)

I've only ever seen reds on TV.

There are a couple of greys that occasionally appear around here. Don't let that ..........."I look cute sitting on my hunches eating nuts"......fool you.

The pesky things dig up bulbs & pot plants, chase birds from the feeder & raid eggs from nests.

:o)

i remember when i was a young lad, the gamekeppers used to shoot them on sight then hang them up as a warning to others, but not to sure if the others understood that, Magpies, Jays, Crows and many more where shot and hung up around the woods.

i think i'm right in saying that in the 50s 60s the only animal/birds that where protected was the Swans and game birds.

I was only thinking the other day, what was my best ever Christmas pressie, yea when I was 11 got my first Air Rifle, and that was it, the greatest pressie I ever got, used to spend hours and hours around the fields hunting.

I like both, but the red ones are the prettiest.

The red ones have more hair in their ears too Monty.....do yours? lol

Go to Formby Point north of Liverpool if you want to see Red Squirrels. The National Trust own a small wood right on the coast where they live. Entry is free to NT members, but charges are low I think and you can buy nuts to feed them. It is nice to walk through the woods anyway and we often do a detour to see them if we are up that way.

See this http://www.redsquirrels.info/formby_squirrels.html and the link for more info.
