Dont you think that the UK is( if not already) becoming a police state?

they want to bring in ID cards,
they want covertly, everyone to be CRB checked.
the police can stop and search you practically on a whim..
your car can be stopped for also any reason"" Just Routine, Sir""
"err you looked at me in a funny way......."
your driving /Car/ insurance/mot details are electronically held ,
your cars are tracked along the motorways,
you are on camera every 20 yards, in the street, virtually.
your phone calls can be monitored,
your mobile phone by its nature of relay stations can track your position, to within a few yards....
do you realise that ofl-licences and the like HAVE to have CCTV watching the checkout?
no its not just to catch the fiddling cashier, but who buys what, and when........

Bob

BUT, as they say,

IF you have nothing to hide..............et all......

with respect Stray,

from what I read in the papers,

Children in the family home, are more likely to be harmed than children at school, even in playground squabbles.......

I dont(as far as I know, have anything untoward hanging over me,) but I DO object to being "Obliged to be checked "

because if anyone refuses, it can be taken that they DO have something to hide........

Stray I don't think most people object to being checked (I certainly don't I had very stringent checks when I joined MOD) but people do object to being told they have to be checked and having to pay for the privilege

I think everybody working with children and vulnerable adults should be vetted, Even Parent Helpers in school. In most cases (every school I have worked in) the school will pay for it anyway. So whats the problem?

When I worked as a childminder my husband had to be vetted even
though he wasn't at home duringthe hours I worked, Not a problem becase it's part of the job.

If you are not happy to be vetted (even if you have nothing to hide) then you are in the wrong job as far as i'm concerned.

I have photo ID cards for several clubs to which I belong, A photo driving licence, and personally,I feel that I dont need any more.
My family know who I am, the police know who I am, and the government probably know more about me, than I know myself.......

I once was followed by a police van for about four miles,(yes I knew they were there) and only when I was about two hundred yards from home did they decide to stop me.....and before I'd said a word they addressed me by my correct name.....

Just skimmed through the thread again. Noticed your costs for the checks. 64 pounds. That is ridiculous. Our costs here are $15 AUD for parent volunteers and about $40 for education staff. And the schools pays the cost anyway. There are some organisations who might require people to pay the cost of their CHS checks but on the whole the organisation for whom you work should be paying.
