Everyone just goes daft, shops are only closed one day and theres usually wee shops open for part of xmas day if your stuck.
I nipped on for a few bits and peices today and it was fine for me.

Must be a real panic for people who are working full time though.

I chickened out! T***os brought me a huge shop yesterday evening, about 12 boxes of groceries and booze, all with smiles and courtesy straight to my kitchen. Costs less than getting the car out and risking the icy roads, and stress free.

Just got back from Sainsbury's, it's murder in there. We waited in the checkout queue for longer than it took to get the shopping in the trolley, and that took ages.

THEN...someone knocked into our trolley at the checkout, and the eggs fell on the floor. Luckily we got another pack for nothing.

Then a 20 minute wait in the cold and frozen snow for the bus home again.

THEN, fun and games fitting everything in our little fridge, me sitting on the floor surrounded by shopping bags, while Hagar kept out of my way in the living room.

He did make me a lovely cuppa though, much needed, and it's all done now, just a couple of bits to get down the road tomorrow, which I couldn't find today.

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 23 Dec 2009 15:24

Hubby said yesterday we need to make an early start tomorrow cos dont want all the hassle!!. wanted to be out by 8am which we did .left the house at 10 to 8. Well we got the the Savacentre in Gillingham Kent at 8 .20 am and the car parks were heaving!!!. we did manage to get a place ,just, in the underground car park and as we walked up the the shops people were already coming back to their cars with shopping trolleys heaped up.
It was bedlam in Sainsbury's even had some people fighting over produce !! we went around the shop fighting sometimes against the flow of people . a good point sometimes for one way systems!!
Anyway I did for once have a shopping list , dont usually cos most times i would forget to put things on it and forget basics ,but this time it worked, we then had to queue up for nearly 15 mins to get through a checkout. Went back to the car and loaded it in and then went back in again for a coffee and to do the Lottery ,Well it might be our Lucky Week!!lol. then hubby decided he needed to go to Boots for his Simple soap and was gone ages only to come back and say they didnt have it. he gets eczema so cant use perfumed soaps or shower gels, so off again to Superdrug . I had to sit down and did so in really the wrong place as was opposite Dixons who had a closing down sale and saw the slimline TV i wanted for the bedroom reduced by nearly £80 well i had to get it !!. it was going to wait till the New Year BUT a bargain is a bargain!!
finally got home at 1.20 pm and then had to unload . well the pavement was so iced up hubby was slipping all over the place so he went and got the shovel and hacked out a big patch so we could walk from the car into the house carrying the shopping
Am I glad its ALL done . if we have forgotten anything then Tough!! we go without !!

I buy bits and pieces over the preceding weeks and my Uncle gets us a free range turkey, whiich is safely tucked up in his fridge now.

Tonight hubby and I are going to get the last bits of fresh stuff and our gammon but only because I promised curry before. It was the only way to get him out with me as he hates food shopping at the best of times never mind manic Christmas shopping!

Just putting the finishing touches to my list now and praying there is cream in T**c*s!!

BTW our shops are shut for 2 days!!

All non-perishable stuff delivered or bought beforehand, so today was just the veg, fruit etc. Went to our local, smallish Sainsburys at 6.30 this morning - had it to myself!!

I did mine yesterday and had a full blown row with an ignorant woman who tried to push her way in front of me at the queues.

I won't be going again and whatever I haven't got I will go without xx

Elisabeth Report 23 Dec 2009 16:27

I did not intend going anywhere near the supermarket today - having done most of the essentials, intending to pick up a loaf and some rolls from a corner shop or T**** Express. That was until an elderly relative presented me with a long list of important things she just must have today!

My husband hates food shopping but went along, helped with the trolley and didn't grumble too much until we had to queue for almost an hour for the checkout. The family in front of us had just about finished the checkout process, started to peel off notes from a large wad to pay for the £209 two trolley worth when the woman announced she had forgotten her pork pie! She left us all speechless as she dashed off to battle her way back through the snake of trollies! We were all standing open mouthed. She didn't even apologies for keeping us waiting.

The Salvation Army band did put a smile on our faces and kept us amused. (I don't think the family spending £209 put even a few coppers in the collecting box.)

Happy Christmas!

Lol.......long live the cry of " if we haven't got it , we go without ! ".........I just said the same thing a moment ago. Our little co-op shop is just across the road and it's open tomorrow until 3pm but I don't think I'll be going over there as I'll be wearing my apron tomorrow from dawn til dusk and probably covered with flour...........lol

Well done you lot for not loosing your tempers in the shops, apart from poor Muffy and Ray with his trolly rage.............LOL......bet thats why you forgot your Humbugs.......lol

It is daft isn't it.......that we all buy SO much .

Happy Christmas XXX
