Well let me know when this will occur Muffy.....I too think they are the food of the Devil .......I grew some in the greenhouse last Summer and was almost tempted to have a nibble at one but I couldn't bring myself to do it .....lol

Muffyxx Report 30 Dec 2009 21:34

I will try Joy and Amanda.

I was almost tempted yesterday to eat the part of the moussaka with the tomato on it.......which is odd as I usually try not to look at it.

I am wondering if my taste buds are changing......up til I had youngest I HATED christmas pudding now I love it.

I can't bear the THOUGHT of it....but wonder if I just took the plunge whether or not I would change my mind !! xx

Amanda2003 Report 30 Dec 2009 21:38

I can eat a cooked one , if it's sort of invisible ( as in a spag bol ) but I've only ever eaten a " raw " one once , that was just after I gave birth to baby number three ( they bought me a cheese and tomato sandwich ) I was famished. Took the tomato out , ate the sandwich then realised I didn't have any where to dump the tomato.........so I ate it !! ....lol......it wasn't that bad to be honest but I haven't tried one since.

Muffy, don't think of them as tomatoes, think of them as love apples!

Muffyxx

Muffyxx Report 30 Dec 2009 21:39

Try a cherry tomato Muffy...... Delicious and they're oh so tiny. One bite and gone Lol

Amanda2003

Amanda2003 Report 30 Dec 2009 21:44

I know exactly what put me off them . The childhood trauma of my Mum biting into one ( her face used to crunkel up with delight ).....then she would kiss me on my nose and say how lovely the Tomato was !! ......lol
I'm sure she only meant to convince me of how lovely they are but it had completly the opposite effect..........she used to do it when I'd grown up....just for fun..........lol

Muffyxx

Muffyxx Report 30 Dec 2009 21:44

Nah if i'm going to do it I am going to DO IT and eat one of those whacking great beef whotsit tomatoes.......the big fellas .......the ones that SHOULD by rights be spouting horns lol xx

Muffyxx

Muffyxx Report 30 Dec 2009 21:46

I think it started with me when I saw the results of a too ripe tomato on the chopping board when I was little. Looked like some sort of operation gone wrong !!!!

*heaves*

Actually that thought has made me feel right sick now.

But on the bright side.......I don't fancy the kebab anymore lol xx

StrayKitten Report 30 Dec 2009 21:48

i duno what put me off, but that manky bit int he middle turns my stomach

Jill 2011 (aka Warrior Princess of Cilla!)

Jill 2011 (aka Warrior Princess of Cilla!) Report 30 Dec 2009 21:49

Try roasted cherry tomatoes. They are lovely.

But seriously, if you're eating a raw one, don't eat the pips or that yukky spleurgy stuff in the middle. 'cos that can be a bit unpleasant.

I used to love them when I was a kid straight off the tomato bush in the back garden still warm from the sun. They never tasted quite the same when they'd been washed or were cold. And I hated shop bought ones then.
