I like a good debate - on here as well as real life. I would hope I'm adult enough to accept that people have differing points of view and I have on occasion seen the other point of view and it's changed mine. What I can't stand on here or elsewhere is when the other person/s tries to make me feel stupid and insults my intelligence because I don't agree. |

I agree with you completely Mildred. If you put a point of view on the board then you should expect a different one to be put forward too. We can't all be the same, its just not possible. |

I love reading the threads on the boards and a good debate is brill. I have noticed sometimes though that it gets a bit personal so I don't post! |

That's the point though Joy, some do take it personally if you don't agree with them and think you are just out to cause trouble. (by you I dont' me YOU, it's the royal 'we') |

I dont agree with friends just for the sake of it, I gave my view on the school meals thread that was my opinion, however I do take on board others views not than just my own, there was sort of one the other week where I thought the first man walking on moon was essential, the information taken from experiments such as this is indispensable, but others disagreed thats fine... |

As I see it it's not friends disagreeing that cause the problems - most of us can accept that we don't all think alike. To my mind the trouble starts when a WUM arrives or someone takes the debate personally. Then the insults start and someone often ends up angry and retaliating. |

I love a good debate. I don't expect everyone to have the same views on everything - be a dull world if we all did. Therefore on a debate thread you will have differing views. Depending on the subject there is often no "right" or "wrong" as it's quite often just a viewpoint. Although some subjects might be difficult to defend maybe. |

A good debate is healthy, and everyone should be entitled to express their views, and even perhaps justify them if it's true debate. |

I feel the same way as Marcelle. Some of the debates do get very personal and I hesitate in posting. A couple of months ago a guy called Medic put up a thread. Not sure what it's heading was, but it was about bullying on the boards. He was attacked and at the time I felt really sorry for him. Lots of people said he was a WUM. That a real medic wouldn't post. I thought it odd at the time, but about a month ago, the very same person made contact about one of my rellies. Did we have a connection. Turns out we did ( only through marriage). Well I met Medic and his wife - we swapped some pics - and they were entirely genuine. |

I disagree mildred ;) where it is clearly a debate or a question has been asked suggesting a debate I think it's good for people to put their views across albeit if they are different. I would expect people to be polite but I expect most people are on here. |
