Hi Mildred, I still haven't changed my mind :) sorry if you thought I was referring to you when I said If you don't like...... I meant to say if people.... I genuinely wasn't referring to you specifically. I have a habit of saying you when I mean people in general. That comment was also referring to my previous statement about people adding to threads that wish people well. Obviously if there is a debate thread, it would be pretty pointless if everyone agreed. Taking that statement out of that context, I can see why you may argue that. |

These are in the guidelines for message board use - so maybe when people use this site to post info threads like the one what was posted, despite their good intentions they may want to bear this in mind :o)) |

Well as I said earlier, there was nothing at all on that thread to suggest that it wasn't up for debate, and surely, just because some information is available, it doesn't mean it can't be discussed from all points of view. |

I do think that if a post is just to inform it is reasonably easy to state that? eg |

Mostly read, sometimes they get too serious, so do not post much. Most threads move too quickly for me to type fast enough to join in anyway. |

I disagree mildred ;) where it is clearly a debate or a question has been asked suggesting a debate I think it's good for people to put their views across albeit if they are different. I would expect people to be polite but I expect most people are on here. |

I like a debate thread that gets really personal and turns into a slanging match. Great larf. |

I feel the same way as Marcelle. Some of the debates do get very personal and I hesitate in posting. A couple of months ago a guy called Medic put up a thread. Not sure what it's heading was, but it was about bullying on the boards. He was attacked and at the time I felt really sorry for him. Lots of people said he was a WUM. That a real medic wouldn't post. I thought it odd at the time, but about a month ago, the very same person made contact about one of my rellies. Did we have a connection. Turns out we did ( only through marriage). Well I met Medic and his wife - we swapped some pics - and they were entirely genuine. |

A good debate is healthy, and everyone should be entitled to express their views, and even perhaps justify them if it's true debate. |

I love a good debate. I don't expect everyone to have the same views on everything - be a dull world if we all did. Therefore on a debate thread you will have differing views. Depending on the subject there is often no "right" or "wrong" as it's quite often just a viewpoint. Although some subjects might be difficult to defend maybe. |

As I see it it's not friends disagreeing that cause the problems - most of us can accept that we don't all think alike. To my mind the trouble starts when a WUM arrives or someone takes the debate personally. Then the insults start and someone often ends up angry and retaliating. |
