There is a web site called scores on the doors, which shows local authority ratings on cleanliness at restaurants etc. Just found out my fav Indian scored one star out of five - not good!

Thank you for that Sue, I've just found my Chinese failed the last inspection, do to poor hygeine management...with food not being cooked to the right temperature, poor personal hygeine, non-food-compliant plastic containers to store food and so on.

What a shame, their service is fast, it's only down the road and the food is good.

I'll look for another one now.

OMG just read the summary report, none of the kitchen staff hold a even a basic food hygeine certificate....and they're cooking MY food!!

I was a builder for many years carrying out remedial works and quite a large amount of my work was in various restaurants, fast food outlets, Indian, Chinese and kebab outlets.

I haven't eaten in an Indian, Chinese restaurant since, and kebabs, wouldn't even give them the time of day.
Some of the English places leave a lot to be desired as well.
I found the kitchens were absolutely disgusting to say the least, and some of the burger and chicken joints weren't too cleaver either.

George.

Wiltshire isn't on there - but an eye-opener for some of the 'posh' places in Bath!

It's not just takeaways this covers, it's also restaurants, pubs, shops and garages selling sandwiches, cafes and food production premises.

Sheila, Swindon is covered in the south west section, so I would imagine the rest of Wilts is too.

Stray....your 4 star is bad. The less stars the better.
I read it as 0-5.... 0 being good.

TeresaW

TeresaW Report 26 Jan 2010 18:11

Nooo 5 stars is top marks, no stars is really bad.

4 stars leaves a few issues to be straightened out, and that could be just one member of staff not having a hygeine cert, or the hot water not working properly.

MarionfromScotland

MarionfromScotland Report 26 Jan 2010 18:15

Oh, mine must be different then

Uggers

Uggers Report 26 Jan 2010 18:18

I've had to look - 2 stars is "fair" so that isn't bad. I know the kitchen of a local place that only has 2 stars and it's immaculately kept in my opinion, so I wouldn't worry too much.

LEGAL REQUIREMENTS - Contraventions & Remedial Action
This Council operates a food hygiene enforcement policy. This involves your premises being scored in respect of four parameters relating to Structure, Cleanliness, Temperature Control and Other Practices. The lowest score of 0 means that the premises are generally satisfactory in respect of that parameter, the higher the score the worse the level of non-compliance is deemed to be.
