What an awful thing to go through. I am saying this, I got stung - well almost - for just over £100 and that was from an alleged internet providor wanting confirmation of my account details that I had used to pay for a months internet connection. I had used my Barclaycard so gave them the details. Thought no more of it until my statement came with transactions in USA (We're in UK). When I contacted Barclays filled in the details of a fraud form they sent to me, they repaid the full amount into the account. That was many years ago now and the way I learnt a bitter lesson. Paypal is another area for scam. Well should I say BOGUS Paypal. If we just remember that none of these respectable insitutions will ask for personal details through an email it will serve us well. We just need to remember the golden rule: Our banks or building societies etc WILL NEVER CONTACT US THROUGH AN EMAIL ASKING FOR CONFIRMATION OF OUR ACCOUNT DETAILS. ANY EMAILS RECEIVED SHOULD BE DELETED IMMEDIATELY OR FORWARDED TO THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICES TEAMS. I hope everything gets sorted for you. The banks can do so much with regard to tracing the source of these scams so hopefully you won't be out of pocket too long. Best wishes for a speedy resolution, Lyn x x

I really think it is about time ALL banks sent letters to ALL their customers stating that these emails are scams, and that they NEVER contact us by email.

I had an idiot ring me purporting to be from Barclays asking me to confirm my chip n pin number - NO bank would do this - besides I do not have a Barclaycard!!! - I asked him to hold for a second then went off and made a coffee, read the paper and hoovered the lounge ! hopefully the call cost him a fortune !

It is always sad to here about these scams as they cause soo much heartache. Banks in the UK don't send out emails either, unless in response to a specific enquiry. Even then they will not use them to mention anything which could be used for a fraud. To be on the safe side, never reply to ANY email asking you to confirm personal details.
