Was it me or was she bottoxed to the hilt ??? I don't think I saw a genuine facial expression for the whole hour !!! Enjoyed the programme though as I have Jewish ancestors.xx

Her backside seems to irritate our ladies. Will make an inspection tomorrow when I view the recording, and make an assessment. From what I have previously seen on the box, her frontal aspect seems ok. len

Didn't see it all (phone rang) but I larfed - many moons ago I worked for the Joe Lyons Empire, and we used to go through the kitchens of the Strand Palace Hotel (which they owned) to our dining room. The kitchens were fiiiiiiiiilthy - running with rats and cockroaches. She's got nothing to be so grand about, I can tell you. OC

My hubby said he didn't realise that she was Nigel Lawson's daughter. You would have thought that her name would have given him a clue wouldn't you??

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 12 Oct 2006 07:58

I've never encountered her before, I never watch cooking programmes. I think she is beautiful with the shape of a real woman. I also thought she seemed a bit shy and reserved, rather than snobbish. I found the programme very interesting - unlike a lot of people I enjoy the social history side of the latest series. Every week I am astounded at how little I know about so many things. I think her embarrassment at discovering a thief in the family was quite natural for a beginner in family history. I was mortified early on in my research to discover newpapers reports about my gt gt grandfather's drunkenness and appearances in court. By the time I discovered my thieves and the murderer I was hardened to the possibilities and happy to find something I could research further. Gwynne

I see the claws still come out here at Genes then!! Quite surprised at the vehemence with which some of you rip in to someone none of us genuinely qualified to comment about *raises eyebrows* I must be happy with who I am ;~) OK so she's posh, she can't help the family she was born into. I'm not a fan of her cooking shows, so I don't watch her.... doesn't mean I'm going to slag her off for being born! I thinks the men love her because she's womanly and in fact very good looking in a handsome way. She's the image of her mother, who was stunning. I found the Jewish trail very interesting. It's good they way they've covered a variety of different types of trees in this series. How's that for a difference of oppinion? XXX Sioux

Well aren't you all being hard on her? She is just a product of her upbringing as we all are!! I agree with Guinevere, I found it all really interesting despite having no Jewish ancestors (as far as I know!) because I knew very little about their history. I have enjoyed most of this series because of all the different social groups and histories in it.

Couldn't agree more, one of the less interesting ones!! Besides that she already had her tree done and I got the feeling she already knew most of what she found out!!

Well i like her,,,she makes me feel thinner,, And i like her cooking, I suppose the programme would be more interesting if you had jewish ancestors and fairly boring if you havent, Didnt her brother look like his Dad?

Maz (the Royal One) in the East End 9256 Report 12 Oct 2006 10:19

I thought it was interesting enough. Agree with Sioux etc that she can't help being posh - just as some of us can't help talking with a cockney accent that gets us branded 'common'. The only criticism I would have is the part about her grandfather going to Belson - I thought they would have gone for the War Diary of his regiment to see for sure if he was there. I really like the way this series delves into the backgrounds of the ancestors more. It's the stuff that I would love to find out about my own family, but can't! Maz. XX
