CB, Has to be strawberry. Can vaguely remeber it before the war and then it was all white for about 10 years. When it made its come-back - superb. happy days

Harry, I'm going to make your mouth water. When we moved into our last home, most of the garden had been turned over to growing fruit, and there were lots of strawberry plants. For several years, we got the most marvellous crop of delicious strawberries, and I used to make strawberry ice cream. It was miles better than the bought stuff, although it didn't quite have the same bright pink colour. Drool on! CB >|< X

current favourite... Ben and Jerry's Chunky Monkey (Banana icecream with large chunks of chocolate and walnut). Had to be, didn't it ? lol Failing that... Strawberry Cheesecake... Chocolate... pistachio... even good old vanilla (so long as it's a good one - Green and Blacks Organic vanilla is superb). Just about the only icecream I don't like is Rum&Raisin.

CB you and I could end up having a real fight in an ice cream parlour then, as they're my faves too, along with mango ice cream. If you want bright pink homemade strawberry ice cream this is the easiest, most deadly and most delicious recipe: Puree 8oz strawbs in food processor, add 5oz unsieved icing sugar and 5 floz double cream. Process until mixed, pour into freezer container and freeze. Remove from freezer 10 mins before required. Don't expect any left overs! Daisy

Paul, Do you know anywhere that sells vats of pistachio ice cream? I know the upmarket London shops have it, and the American Baskin Robbins chain still do it, but I've not been able to buy it regularly for years. Best place I've ever tasted it (apart from Sardinia) is a pizzeria in the Market Square in Cambridge. They put Amaretto liqueur in it, and it's superb. CB >|<

CB Haven't actually bought any for a long time. Our local Tesco's sells pistachio Kulfi though which I'm told is lovely, but haven't tried it (from there) myself... if I see any I'll let you know Paul

Paul, Thank you. Daisy, Thank you too - that's exactly how I make it, but it doesn't usually go bright pink, just a very pale colour. I don't mind that so much, as long as the flavour's there, but you need good English strawberries for that, not the imported, watery ones. Our old garden ones were superb. Not sure about a fight with you though - I may be big, but I'm a real coward when it comes to fisticuffs! I just give in. LoL CB >|< X

BTW, Daisy, do you know what that pizzeria/cafe is called? It's on the corner, along the same row of shops that has M & S's back door in it. I can never remember it's name, although I've been there many times. CB >|<

Hi CB, Vanilla or strawberry but it has to be Thayers ice cream. I can only get it in Wales. Maybe no bad thing I'd be the size of a house if I could get it here. Gwynne

I wasn't hungry till I started reading this thread! Pistachio and Maple walnut. Oh yummy. I try not to associate family history with food, but walking up from Embankment to Charing Cross on my way to Somerset House, there used to be a Dayville 32 flavours. I worked my way through all the nut and fudgy flavours. As Harry would say, happy days!

Oh Brenda! Don't mention Dayville's! We used to visit the one in Wimbledon Village whenever we drove through there, after walking the dog on Wimbledon Common or avoiding traffic jams on the A3 en route home from London. They used to do pistachio with almonds in it, which I thought spoilt it, but the ice cream was great, so I'd pick out the almonds and crunch them separately later. What a pig! LoL CB >|<

I like the Vanilla ones they dip in the Chocolate syrup, and then they stick a chocolate flake in the top, and pour hundreds and thousands sprinkles all over it. YUM.. Tony Oz :>))
