	My parents were the same Mildred Everything stopped for the 6 and 10 pm news I never watch it now,but do read papers on the net It was their lifeline ,as you say it stemmed from the war years and the radio Then went to BBC,then ITV as well when that started I used to get in trouble if I talked while it was on
