12.45pm

Fiona, so pleased that everything went to plan. Now with a bit of luck to can get back into you routine. We always have things in the wrong place, so don't worry about that.

Ros said there was quite a bit of SNOW in Rutland, but we didn't see any here. Very overcast and damp here today, they promise us sunshine tomorrow, but I won't hold my breath !!!!

Contacted BT and my number is on the list, to not receive these calls, so the system dosen't work.

David. JAN/MARCH are the worst months to sell houses, you will see a change in the spring, when everywhere looks nice and green, and a bit of warmth in the air. Everybody will want it !!!! you will have to put the price up then. Keep your chin up. !!!

What a great idea Liz, putting fishy ice cubes through your neighbours letter box, She will never know. I once saw on TV where a divorce was taking place, and the house being kept by the husband. The wife went round all the curtains and put PRAWNS in the linings. With the heating on you can imagine the smell. (HAVE YOU GOT A KEY ????) We are a nasty lot ain't we!!!! but will stick together.

The weather is calling me a liar. The sun has just come out.!!!

Fiona I am pleased it all went well for you yesterday, and to have lots of people there must have been heartwarming .Often when an elderly person dies there are not many friends still around to mourn them, and I always think that is so sad.
Blue sky here now,in fact it is incredibly bright. No snow.I thought you were in for more Fiona.Good job it held off until after the funeral.

Poor Roz Frank.I suppose being stretched out is more comfortable for her.Would you care to come and flick your duster around my place while you are at it ?

Hannah has woken this morning with such a bad headache it is making her teeth hurt. She needed to go to the bank to speak to someone ,but was not well enough and didn't have a number to ring the branch ,so I went in and got someone to ring her here. What would they do without me eh???? lolol

I think I will try and cook something in the Slow cooker.I haven't used it yet.But first I need to find the book to tell me what to do lol

Hi Frank
Hi Jane
Yes Jane it was nice to see that people who belong to my church who remember dad and there was his neighbours and day care centre staff and staff and residents families from the care home too. also other people who live in the surrounding streets to dad who remember him passing up & down and stopping to chat on one of his many walks. and there was a few of my friends from work and church , also as I said before my mums relations from Glasgow were there, who wanted to pay there respects to uncle Edwin.

Hope Hannah will be ok. we have either coughs or sneezes in the family, I have been taking flu med to keep it away these past few days, but if I come down with a cold now its ok.

Afternoon All,

13.56

Glorious sun here, so I shall be off out for a walk somewhere soon I think. OH has gone to the match at Redditch.......not a place with much for me to do so I waved him off!!

Sounds like your dad's funeral was as good as it could be Fiona and I think you have done him proud for a long time.

We get a lot of those sorts of phone calls too, despite being ex directory. Loan people, surveys, slow broadband......they all get short shrift now!! I tell them to put whatever it is about in the post and put the phone down or just leave it off the hook for a while. It is a real nuisance when they ring when you are in the middle of something......which you usually are.

We stumbled on an old film while we had a cuppa in bed this morning. Black and white and part way through, but we had a look anyway. Well, how can you resist with a title like 'Fun at St Fanny's' !!! lol It was made in 1956 and we were surprised to see Peter Butterworth, Stanley Unwin (doing his funny words even then!) a young Billy Bunter and Ronnie Corbett playing a schoolboy!! It had all the classics I had forgotten like someone nearly swallowing a fish in their glass of water, someone peering through the cut out eyes in a painting on the wall........it seemed to happen often in the 50s, 60s. lol

Mel, our surgery doesn't even have those sprays, nor our dentist either. I have seen them in some public toilets though. I carry a bottle in the car to use when I'm out. I had a letter from the surgery yesterday......one of the study results.....have to go and discuss my lipid levels. They are the same as they were a few years ago, but I suppose intervention is sooner these days. What they did say at the hospital was that the finger prick tests they do at supermarkets at times aren't as reliable (I had a good result from one of those last year!!). I can hear the words DIET and EXERCISE already.

How awful for that person to be in such despair to do that Jane and dreadful for the driver too.

Afternoon everyone,
We have blue sky and sunshine here today ,but its still chilly with the wind .

Fiona, i'am glad every thing went off well yesterday ,and it must have been lovely to have Sofia there to put smiles on peoples faces on a sad day, i'am sure your dad was looking down and smiling too.

Frank, i suggested to Liz that she post the fishy ice cubes through the letter box !! naughty arn't i lol

I've made Lasagne for our tea tonight ,i've got a slow cooker in the back of the cupboard ,i think i've used it once !! DIL uses her a lot for Stews and it always smells lovely when cooking .
I've also got a steamer in the cupboard and thats only been used once too.
My throat is a bit dry today ,and i've got a bit of a cough ,hubby's throat didn't really come to anything, so i think he's passed it to me !!

Oh Billy Bunter!.I used to love him.Am I right in thinking he had a high pitched silly laugh?

Mandy I am always frightened of using new gadgets and things. It was Chris idea to get the slow cooker. My sister says she uses hers all the time as she is out at work 3 days a week.I have decided to do a casserole in it tomorrow ,not today now.I don't feel like doing much today,so I won't lol.
Just wrapped a couple of pressies for `James for when he gets home on Monday.I think this is the first year he won't be here for his actual birthday.

Hannah was saying that next Christmas she and Sarah(the Australian) are thinking of going to India !!! for 3 weeks. She has found a company that do an organised trip.It looks great ,but exhausting.Oh to be young again lol
I remember when I was 18 and had my first Christmas away from home and family.I was working in Athens as a Nanny .........I was so homesick .it was awful.I can remember New Years Eve when I went to the main Post Office to ring home and Mum and Dad had their party in full swing. All their friends queued up to wish me a Happy New Year and all I could do was sob down the phone lol.I was soon back to normal though. It was just hearing their voices.
Cup of Tea time I think .

MillymollyAmanda Report 8 Jan 2011 16:44

I think of things in the night when i wake to go to the Loo ,i really should have a pad by the bed to write things down , goodness knows if i'd be able to read it in the morning as i always stagger through in the dark lol

Whew! a VERY busy day here!! Chap turned up this a.m with a lorry load of logs! really pleased to see him and them, BUT we had to split a lot of them and then stack them in our wood shed!! took OH and me most of the morning. Had lunch, cleaned Merlin's stable and then sorted out his feed store, so as we can store Hay in there when OH is in hospital, makes it easier than the hay loft especially afterwards when he won't be able to lift things or do too much for a while. Then sorted out OH's workshop, and put a lot of 'junk' ready for the bins on Monday! Took Millie for a walk, and then checked out neighbours house (other side!!!) as she is away! Now it is hailing(!!) here, and OH has gone to put Merlin to bed!! I use my Slow Cooker quite a lot in the Summer Jane as I have the Rayburn for the winter. I do 'Pot Roast', Honey Ham, make stock, all sorts!! Another thing I use lot is the BreadMaker, it's really easy and makes brilliant bread.

I used to keep a pad and paper by my bed to write my dreams down.I did it for a while ,but my dreams are so crazy sometimes it was difficult to actually put down what I had dreamt.I think a psychologist would have a field day working out mine lol
Just doing some Chicken and Noodle soup for Hannah.I got the last pack in Tes**.They must have gone like a bomb feeding all the poorly people over Xmas

Jane Report 8 Jan 2011 17:06

Liz ,do you brown all your meat and veg before putting it in the Slow cooker?or do you just chuck it all in.It seems a bit of a faff to have to do that beforehand. My sister says she doesn't bother browning.
You have had a busy day. When our logs come we just have to stack them as they come in the right size for the fire.Makes life easier lol.
It is freezing outside now.No hail or rain .I think i will have to go and put a warmer top on now.It was so hot in here earlier with the heating and the sun beating through the windows.
We all seem like Sloths here this afternoon lol.Just being lazy so and so's

Mandy I hope your shivers don't turn into anything nasty.

MillymollyAmanda

MillymollyAmanda Report 8 Jan 2011 17:18

Wow Liz, you;ve been busy today ,that Honey Ham sounds lovely ,can we have the recipe please , might give that a go,as i have two pieces of gammon in the freezer ,bought when they were selling them off in Tes*o's.
i do use my bread Maker, and it does make nice bread.

DIl went out this morning and bought a Wok, they thought they would have Stir fry tonight ,she has never done one before ,she got some Stir Fry packs from Morri*ons and some different sauces too , i think the little ones will like it as they love the Noodles when they have a Chinese meal.

That's another thing in my cupboard a Wok !!! all these things i never use lol

MillymollyAmanda

MillymollyAmanda Report 8 Jan 2011 17:21

I hope so too Jane , i've been dosing my self up with the old paracetamol

LilyL

LilyL Report 8 Jan 2011 17:22

Sometimes I brown things Jane, but not if I don't feel like it which is most of the time!! I roast chicken in mine in the summer and I always shake Chargrill or whatever on it, then a bit of oil, I even put a couple spuds round the chicken depending on the size of the bird and just leave it to get on with cooking!!! Mandy, I have to write EVERYTHING down, usually on a board in our kitchen! otherwise, I have an exercise book which I write things down in, mind you,my writing is so awful, that I sometimes can't read what I've written!!!

How on earth did our parents cope without Slow Cookers,Bread Makers,Woks,Food Processors ,and the like.I remember that horrible metal mincer that Mum used to clamp on the worktop and stuff the left over beef in on a monday for cottage pie.It was sometimes my job to turn the handle.I had to stand on a stool to get a good grip .It nearly wrenched my arm off lol.I don't know if I am imagining this but I think Mum may have put bread through the mincer too.Does that sound right?

MillymollyAmanda

MillymollyAmanda Report 8 Jan 2011 17:30

I remember throwing out an old mincer like that Jane ,we found it in dads shed when we were sorting out after he had passed away , it was all rusty !!
I think they did put bread through and add to the meat to make it go further .

Better look in the oven !! now that i do use lol

LilyL

LilyL Report 8 Jan 2011 17:31

Sorry Mandy, didn't see your post there! All I do is just put honey on the Ham at the start and add more every so often depending how sweet you want the ham to be, plus cloves, a lot of these if you are us as we like them, then just cook in the normal way either in the oven or Crock Pot. I use my Wok fairly often, usually for normal frying, mince, and things that have veg and odds and ends in it, Frying Pans tend to get too full and food tips out when you turn it, Wok has nice high sides which makes tossing food easier! well, it is for me anyway!!!!
