Fiona I am pleased it all went well for you yesterday, and to have lots of people there must have been heartwarming .Often when an elderly person dies there are not many friends still around to mourn them, and I always think that is so sad. |

Whew! a VERY busy day here!! Chap turned up this a.m with a lorry load of logs! really pleased to see him and them, BUT we had to split a lot of them and then stack them in our wood shed!! took OH and me most of the morning. Had lunch, cleaned Merlin's stable and then sorted out his feed store, so as we can store Hay in there when OH is in hospital, makes it easier than the hay loft especially afterwards when he won't be able to lift things or do too much for a while. Then sorted out OH's workshop, and put a lot of 'junk' ready for the bins on Monday! Took Millie for a walk, and then checked out neighbours house (other side!!!) as she is away! Now it is hailing(!!) here, and OH has gone to put Merlin to bed!! I use my Slow Cooker quite a lot in the Summer Jane as I have the Rayburn for the winter. I do 'Pot Roast', Honey Ham, make stock, all sorts!! Another thing I use lot is the BreadMaker, it's really easy and makes brilliant bread. |

I used to keep a pad and paper by my bed to write my dreams down.I did it for a while ,but my dreams are so crazy sometimes it was difficult to actually put down what I had dreamt.I think a psychologist would have a field day working out mine lol |

Liz ,do you brown all your meat and veg before putting it in the Slow cooker?or do you just chuck it all in.It seems a bit of a faff to have to do that beforehand. My sister says she doesn't bother browning. |

Sometimes I brown things Jane, but not if I don't feel like it which is most of the time!! I roast chicken in mine in the summer and I always shake Chargrill or whatever on it, then a bit of oil, I even put a couple spuds round the chicken depending on the size of the bird and just leave it to get on with cooking!!! Mandy, I have to write EVERYTHING down, usually on a board in our kitchen! otherwise, I have an exercise book which I write things down in, mind you,my writing is so awful, that I sometimes can't read what I've written!!! |

How on earth did our parents cope without Slow Cookers,Bread Makers,Woks,Food Processors ,and the like.I remember that horrible metal mincer that Mum used to clamp on the worktop and stuff the left over beef in on a monday for cottage pie.It was sometimes my job to turn the handle.I had to stand on a stool to get a good grip .It nearly wrenched my arm off lol.I don't know if I am imagining this but I think Mum may have put bread through the mincer too.Does that sound right? |

Sorry Mandy, didn't see your post there! All I do is just put honey on the Ham at the start and add more every so often depending how sweet you want the ham to be, plus cloves, a lot of these if you are us as we like them, then just cook in the normal way either in the oven or Crock Pot. I use my Wok fairly often, usually for normal frying, mince, and things that have veg and odds and ends in it, Frying Pans tend to get too full and food tips out when you turn it, Wok has nice high sides which makes tossing food easier! well, it is for me anyway!!!! |
