Hi Again

Have had a frustrating hour trying to find my grandmothers family in the 1901 Census. I sometimes wonder if Genes carries all the records as I can go onto the Durham site and find info there!!
Off to cook the tea now.
D'ont worry hubby has own towel etc. He seems brighter today so we may get out tomorrow.

Anne, if you like to PM the details of your grandmothers family, we'll always have a look for you .

Stopped raining now ,but its so dull and dreary and the wind is getting up.

Still ironing and now off to do the chickens.

Anne I said we would always help.

I used to use a smashing site for Durham lookups but they changed it. You could look at marriages and everything for free.

16.28 and still light

Frank you talked about an art class for yourself. what are you like drawing? pretty good, what about pen and ink pictures or charcoal and chalk. You can get very good effects with those mediums and it dos'nt matter about colours.

16.54pm.

Hi Folks

Thanks for the offer of help.
My grandmother was called Barbara Mcgill and she was born 1888 in Newcastle upon Tyne. Her fathers name was Joseph Henry Mcgill c 1862 and her mother Isabella Shotton born 1867.Her siblings included Johnc1900,Thomas1903, Williamc1899, Joanna1896, Martha Catherinec1894,Elizabeth 1906, Joseph 1890 And Robert Shotton Mcgill1886.
The Durham site is still very good but doesn't cover Newcastle and I have been unable to find a good site for that area.
Millions of thanks off to eat tea now as fruit and veg has now arrived

Evening All,

I love the 'bra' poem Liz. That lady does sound quite a character.......I must say I do like people like that.

Fiona, your OH sounds like mine was before he retired......he would go back to work, then arrive home with a full diary for a few months ahead!! At least he was in the same country though, but it made it hard to plan any breaks. I think it is an excellent idea for you to get away for a bit and recharge your batteries and relax......will do you good. Where are you going Mel.......was it the Norfolk Broads on a boat?? Do the banties tend to start laying later than the others. Oh meant to say, did you get a pic of the new baby chicks last year? They are so cute as babies.

Never mind Jane, you weren't very well at xmas.......I bet Fitz will sort his BIG tree early next year....... I can just picture him lugging a huge tree inside. They must dress the top half from on the landing! lol

I hadn't realised the price of Caulis had gone up that much!! I suppose the weather may have spoiled some with all the snow.

Frank, let's hope the stones go away. A friend who had them a few years ago said she was in agony with hers. I think she said she passed hers so didn't have to have anything done.

Frank.......you GO FOR IT with the art classes. You could record or watch Joy of Painting with Bob Ross. He's on 240 Discrealtime (Lifestyle and Culture) on Sky. He's on tomorrow 4.30 am to 6.00 am in half hour slots. You will be amazed what he can do with big brushes that I would use to paint emulsion.....I promise you. Sadly, he died in the 70s I think, but he is a lovely, gentle soul. After watching him last year and being amazed and with our Maureen's brilliant help and encouragement I started to do some painting last year just on old wallpaper. I have only done 2 or 3 but it is very relaxing and satisfying. I eventually sent pics of them to Maureen and Shirl! lol I will see if I can send them to you ......they aren't brilliant, but I am only a beginner!! lol. There is another chap, can't remember his name now who does watercolours and is on sometimes between or after Bob Ross on tv. You could always paint in blue, orange and yellow!!

Thany you so much. I have no idea why I could not find this. Just finished tea and watching the weakest link.
Had bread and butter pudding made from leftover stollen gorgeous.
Guess no one remembers trolley buses.

Whose freezer will the 32 boxes go in ??lol
I got a Cauli at Tes**.I refused to pay the £1 99 even though it was large and I got one for 99p one of the Market Value ones.It is fine and big enough for what I need tonight.
Frank you should go to Art Classes if you can.You could be famous in the future !!!.I remember Maureen wanting to go to classes but couldn't find any.
I can't draw,or paint or do anything artistic really.Chris is good and so is Hannah.I wonder if Chris may take up water colour painting again when he retires.

Have you seen the price of Petrol????? I am going to suggest James doesn't take his car back to Uni.Not sure how that will go down.

Your welcome Anne, if you need any more just ask.

That pud sounds nice, was that a Stollen with Marzipan through the middle ?

Anne

Anne Report 11 Jan 2011 18:18

MilliemollyAmanda

Then stollen did have marzipan through the middle. It came from Sainsbury and was very tasty. I used the Dehlia Smith bandb pudding recipe minus the cream. We have also just finished the Christmas cake today and have only a few chocolates left then its back to normal

Annx

Annx Report 11 Jan 2011 18:22

That pud sounds delicious Anne. My OH would love it with it having marzipan in it.

My sister is very good at drawing and copying things. I get all the proportions wrong. I had a go at sketching OH from a photo a few years ago and I got the eyes all wrong. lol He took one look at it and said 'psychopath' lol Did Chris paint landscapes Jane?

Mandy, I used to hear a chap I worked with talk about trolley buses, but I can't remember seeing any.

MillymollyAmanda Report 11 Jan 2011 18:24

Jane

Thankfully the icecream will stay at the shop and I can collect as I need it. The freezer at the venue only holds 8 boxes and these will all go at next Sundays matinee.

Frank Do try painting its so theraputic. I slap paint onto huge surfaces for scenery but love to dabble on a small scale now and again but am not very good but I do not think thats the point, its so much fun.

I have to say that the price of petrol out here in the country is horrendous but what can you do. We do have a reasonable bus service but its just not the same is it. Fine if you are just going to town but some of the villages only have buses on market day.

Evening all,

Mel, I have never been an artist or painter, It's just that being colour blind, I wonder what type of picture I would turn out !!!! Ann, I have seen the chap you mentioned, always wonder how he does it. looks so easy.

Anne, once you mention Family trees, I knew help would be just around the corner. What this lot don't know, is not worth knowing !!! They will always be there, I speak from experience.

Fuel has shot up in price hasn't it. I put half a tank in yesterday and did a double take at the price!! We seem to keep having shortages around here to with a lot of pumps closed. What with that and talk of strikes I'm keeping a full tank.

I am slowly getting the hang of this. Tell me why do my messages say Edit Delete at the top and yours dont??

I dare not buy anymore sweets as I put weight on so easily and I often cannot walk very far in the winter as I have horrible knees.
The local news has just announced that half of our local libraries are to be closed. So many people will suffer, its just not fair.I know we all have to make cuts but am I the only one who thinks that the wrong services are being targeted?
