My hubby responded to an e-mail from our bank--it looked genuine in every way---it was scam and someone has left us £2000 in debt!!!! The bank and the police have been brilliant but I feel so sick I just want to cry -- ------------------------------ The bank managed to intercept the money to a building society in Swindon of all places! They are in the process of refunding it, and the fraud squad are involved!! PHEW!!!! I have spent the most stressfull 24 hours in ages and it sure as heck won't happen again. thanks again for the support Carol |

I would fell sick to, you poor thing, I am sure you will get it all back in time, my son did when his card was cloned, he used a Tesco’s cash point, they had 1300 in three day’s, it was only someone telling me it had been targeted, and I asked son if he had used it, I will not repeat his words when he cheeked it on line. Not only that but we've had to make 2 hours (or more) phone calls to change passwords, cancel the affected cards, change e-mail addresses etc etc - my head feels as tho it's about to explode! I can't even get pi...d tonight 'cos I'm on 7:30 start at work tomorrow!! I hope they catch them and tell me who they are so I can catch them by their short and curlies and give them a good deal of physical pain!!!!! |

Oh that is awful!!!! For the last couple of months I've had emails from 'Barclays IBank' (notice the I before the bank), asking me to verify my account details, security update, urgent, urgent etc. etc.. Considering I have never banked with Barclays these are deleted without opening. What an dreadful scam! Sylvxx |

I got sick of receiving e-mails from bogus banks so ad to change my address. Thing is I have never given any bank my e-mail address so I knew it was a bogus one. |

Im so sorry for you, but a word of advice, Banks will NEVER e-mail you asking for confirmation of passwords etc, if you do receive such an e-mail IGNORE it. Its called phishing. I once fell for it, but very quickly realised and alerted the bank, luckily nothing was taken. Keith |

Just a thought on that Keith. I know there are plenty of online warnings but with all the crap my banks send out I can't ever remember anything in the snail mail. There must be lots of people fairly new to computers every day. I believe banks could do much more, they KNOW about the insecure call centers abroad etc. My credit card was recently used abroad and it has NEVER left the house. Why can't I get one that's for UK use only? Bob |

Good idea about the CC Robert, I dont expect they will produce one though, far easier and cheaper for them to just issue a card with no restrictions on worldwide usage. As you say, phishing will not go away, there are always newcomers to fall for it, (and experienced hands as well). |

Hi, its not only Bank accounts ,credit card fraud is rife too.Came home last week after a few days away to a letter from my card company asking would i please ring their fraud dept, as they`d telephoned a few times. After nearly spilling my coffee I rang to find that someone had tried three times that week to place Bets on an online Betting site of £200,£86 and £28!!!! As I only usually use my card for Family research sites and AOL, the card hasn`t been out of my keeping but I did order some Fishing Tackle for my husband at the end of Sept so now they are checking if someone there had borrowed the details!!!!!! So obviously it pays to take care. |

Thanks everyone for your support, I hope no0one has to go through what we've had to today. The banks been good as well. OH feels daft for falling for it, but he's not familiar with these cons and doesn't use the internet much, thought it was geniune...It could happen to anyone I guess, especially if caught at the wrong moment!! I'm off to bed now, got a migraine from 3 hours drive and several hours trying to sort all this out!! Thanks again for all your kind words of support, they've really helped. it's brilliant to have such caring friends Carol |
