so did i sal! i have never been on a dig, but very often i could be seen on the side lines watching avidly when ever i saw that one was going on in the old part of scarborough (where i live). i watch time team over and over again when ever it is on the tv. i also thought about being a librarian, as a child my books on the shelves were always numbered and in alphabetical order, checked every day there was only me in my bedroom! i sound really sad, not much better now with this hobby, all my ancestors are numbered and checked everyday ! lol tina x |

my grandad worked for the local waterboard which meant digging up the roads all the time. he knew i loved this type of thing and used to bring me home lots of old broken pots which i still have. it is all medieval green glazed stuff, unfortunbately i didnt label them as to where he found them so it would be of no use to local historians now for future digs. tina x |

for as long as i can remember i wanted to be in the WRNS - womens royal navy - i did make it but because of youth and the love of liquor i didnt make it for very long lol - one of the biggest regrets in my life. I then decided i wanted to be a journalist or political analyst - then met hubby and it all changed again. Dont know what i ll do once the kids have all started school - possibly something to do with counselloring. |

Hi Sal. Yes of course,,,,,,,!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It took months before I took courage to handle a bit of bone,or part scull!!!!!! its the greatest feelling when things are unearthed and they are being seen for the first time in centries,,,,I get to go about 4/5 times a year, they welcome helpers,,,,, I have been a sorter and washer for the Time Team lot, when they dug in my local area,,,,,,,,,,, Get a metal detector they are brilliant and I have got loads of stuff from that,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,of course any finds of real value are given to the Heritage group, but if I am on a farmers land then all finds of value have to be given to him, or told of them and if he doesnt want it then you get to keep it,,but some coins or gold come under restrictions,,,,,,,,,, kay, |

I remember wanting to be a red coat at one time. Only because when you are on holiday they do seem to be having fun. I did want to join the RAF as maybe a dog handler. I did all the interview and even medical but they only offered me nursing which I was not in the slightest bit interested in so that was the end of that. |

Sal, Yes do you dont need an expensive one,but buy one that has-Discrimnator,,,,it tells you the difference metals...but cant define gold from silver,,,,,,,,,but bronze from iron,,,,beaches are a favourite spot for -detectors--.I usually use farm land but can go miles away with the club and go on my own...sadley nobody in family shares my passion,,, Plus its all year round,,,,,,,,,,,, kay, |

I wanted to be a hairdresser when I was at school but my parents didn't think it was appropriate for a grammar school girl to become a hairdresser!! Still to this day I love anything to do with hair colouring, cutting, styling etc. Sal - on the subject of archaeological digs, I always watch that British program on Tuesday on ABC where they do the archaeological digs in Britain. That is so fascinating. But hey don't worry about finding money on the shores of Sydney Harbour, did you see the SMH yesterday where they have dug up an almost complete hafted stone axe, a relic from the Stone Age in Wollemi National Park. The guy who found it said it was like something he had dreamed about since he was a kid and decided to study archaeology. My friend's sister in UK goes to Eygpt as a volunteer to do digs. You could always do something like that? Lyn (Sydney) |
