The 1881 census shows Jane Baxter was born in Ireland c 1841, (though the 1891 census has her aged 57, so born c1834) so if the marriage you found is correct, then presumably Henry Baxter and wife Margaret moved to Ireland some time between 1824 and c 1834-1841, when Jane was born.

Maybe a possibility ??

DOCHERTY
JOHN HARDIE

Hamilton

Did he have a middle name?
do you know where he was living in later life?

There are 15 John Dochertys who died between 1960 and 1980 in Scotland, some with middle names, and some without.

Only a few show mms on a basic search.

They, along with the year & registration district, are the references you'd need to order a copy of the certificate.
Consider it the equivalent of the GRO Vol & Page numbers

It might be that Jane claimed Poor Relief after George died. The records are indexed and held in The Mitchell Library, Glasgow. If she did claim relief, the record would almost certainly tell you how long the family lived in Glasgow.

As his death was in Glasgow, try the Glasgow Herald Archive:

Link here:

FRIZZLE

EDIT:

Now that I've looked at the archive, I see that the editions of 23, 24, and 25 April 1886 are missing!

(Enter 1886 in the date search box, then on the next page select "View all" at the top of the April column. Maybe there would be something from April 26 onwards - not easy to view, though, and you have to work your way through every page of each edition.)

EDIT AGAIN:

The British Newspaper Archive seems to have the 23-25 April editions, but you have to subscribe to see the images. You can get a three-day free trial, though - or another helper will probably have a sub and may look it up.

http://tinyurl.com/y53cbtvm

"Frizzle" doesn't produce any search results, though - so if there was a report, it may have just been in general terms, and not named him.

But I don't see anything relevant from a search for " accident".
