He's old. Just over 15. He's blind in one eye, and poor vision in the other, deaf, has bad dermatitis, is losing his fur from it. He messed himself in his sleep the other night. :-( We took him to the vets, and he had some jabs, anit-biotics and cortozone. The vet said he's unsure whether he'll be around at Christmas. :'-( |

I'm just hoping that I come down one morning, and he's died in his sleep. I don't want him to just drop dead. |

paul 2 years ago we rescued a british bulldog which was in a severe state. he was thin, had huge boils between his toes, had mange and a nasty infection under his stubby tail we took him to our vet as soon as we left the previous owners house. our vet was fighting the tears as she examined him. after a course of antibiotics his infection cleared up but everyday im still cleaning under his tail as he smells awful. we bathe him in sheepdip!! the shampoo cost us £200 for 10 bottles. we have to dilute it as it is so strong. he will never get his fur back and sometimes i wonder whether its worth bathing him 4 times a week as it doesnt seem to be doing anything . he also has bad eyes and cannot see out of one of them. the thing is with beefy is that he is only 4 years old .if only the previous owners had looked after him properly but he was a fashion accessory to go with their gold chains and designer clothes!!! sometimes beefy cant walk because of these huge boils between his toes, maybe it would be kinder for us to have him put to sleep, but its a hard decision. my heart goes out to you paul. susie |

Someone who works with my mum has recently been banned from keeping Animals for 10 years because whent he dog was ill, he did nothing. How could someone do something like that? He should be banned for LIFE. |

Paul, I know how you feel. My 13yr old Sheltie now has chronic arthritis in her front feet, also gone stone deaf and has just started wetting herself when she sleeps. Really in a quandry as to what to do about her now, so I know what it's like. Stella |

The other day, he grazed all his chin on the patio step. His back legs are bad, and I think they gave way when he was climbing the steps. I heard the thud of his jaw. :-( Poor old thing. He looks really bad at the moment, and when we took him to the vets the other week, people kept giving us funny looks. |

So sorry that your dog is not doing too well, Paul. I know it's a really hard decision to make but it might be best to let him go now rather than let him struggle on. I know it's a cliche but better a week too early than a day too late. xx |

May be an idea to give your vets a quick call paul see what they say.I would be the same a you and hope that when the time he passes in his sleep, but having children at home they would find it too upsetting. Do what you feel is best for him, please keep us upto date Thinging of you Sharon |

We took him to the vets this morning. The Vet said, apart from the obvious things, such as his dermatitis, and all his cuts and bruises, he is generally ok. But because he is so old, he's wondering if he will make it much longer. He wants to see him in a few weeks to see how he is. |

One of my mothers dogs is very old too, we dont know his exact age because he was an abandoned dog that I found, but I would say hes about 16/17. he has days when mum thinks he wont last the night, he also makes a mess now because hes incontinent, bless him. but then he perks up again. |

Thanks Colin. She never had pups before being spayed - wish now I'd let her have some. Seeing the Vet on Wednesday about her incontinence, so expect she will put her on medication, as I think it's a hormonal thing that's wrong with her. Stella |
